I’d like to say that by now HBO’s Girls has moved past the initial backlash to gain some serious respect and recognition, but I’m not entirely sure that is the case. Sure, Lena Dunham won a Golden Globe last year, but Girls continues to be a very divisive show that is perceived by many as an obnoxious look at a bunch of whiny, self-absorbed, white privileged urbanites. That being said, I think it works as a comedy first and foremost, and I, for one, am glad that it exists. HBO recently released the first trailer for the third season, which will be premiering on Jan. 12th with two back-to-back episodes.
