Mad Max: Fury Road Finally Gets a Release Date

Nearly a decade after George Miller started getting serious about making a fourth Mad Max movie, it is finally about to become a reality. After several false starts, a slew of financial problems and even some time spent re-envisioning it as an animated movie instead, Mad Max: Fury Road finally went into production last summer in Namibia. The project was severely behind schedule and reportedly went overbudget as well, but in the end, shooting was completed. Still, Warner Brothers remained almost completely silent about the post-apocalyptic sequel and some additional reshoots were scheduled for this year, leading to further speculation about its status. Now this week they have finally penciled it in on their release calendar. Unfortunately, if you were hoping to see it in 2014, you’re going to have to wait just a little bit longer.

According to a press release from Warner Brothers Pictures and Village Roadshow, Mad Max: Fury Road has been set for a May 15th, 2015 release. Fittingly, that’s almost exactly thirty years after the release of the last film, Mad Mad Beyond Thunderdome. However, it also means that we have yet another sequel entering the already crowded summer 2015 battleground. Although the chosen date was unoccupied, it is two weeks after The Avengers: Age of Ultron and one week before Tomorrowland and Susan Cooper.

I’m definitely disappointed that we won’t get to see the movie next year, but I guess if it makes for a better film, it will all be worth it. One thing that hasn’t been mentioned is a potential release date for the sequel, Mad Max: Furiosa, which was supposedly being shot back to back with Fury Road. It’s still unclear if that actually happened or if George Miller only ended up with one movie in the can. Mad Max: Fury Road stars Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Do you have high hopes for the new Mad Max flick?

Sources are saying the end product is quite awesome, so off course I’m excited!

Having said, I’m going to be PISSED at Warner Brothers (and Disney as well) if it bombs thanks to being inbetween Avengers 2 (May 1st) and Tomorrowland (May 22nd). Especially since the film (despite there being reshoots) is already done and they gain NOTHING to put it smack dab in the middle there.

Jesus, why so long? It takes a year and a half to edit a fucking movie?
