Justin Lin in Talks to Direct the Next Bourne Movie

Well, I think we are now starting to see why Justin Lin decided to walk away from the Fast & Furious franchise. Back in April, we learned that he would not be returning to direct the seventh installment of the insanely successful action franchise. Although there was talk that the studio wanted to rush a sequel out too quickly for his liking, the other obvious reason for his departure was that he simply wanted to try something new. Now he’s going to get that chance as he is reportedly being handed the keys to one of Universal’s other most sought after franchises: the Bourne series. But is he ready to immediately get behind the wheel of another big budget blockbuster?
According to Variety, Justin Lin is currently in early discussions to direct the next Bourne movie for Universal Pictures. This would be the direct sequel to The Bourne Legacy starring Jeremy Renner, not a new installment with Matt Damon. Although there were rumours that Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon might return to the series, that has proven to be unlikely.
Sources say that Lin is still weighing his options as he has a few other projects that he has been contemplating such as Section 6, a movie about the founding of MI6, and L.A. Riots, a movie about the L.A. riots based on a script by John Ridley (12 Years a Slave). Either way, he’s a safe choice from the studio’s perspective, but he’ll have his work cut out for him if he wants to keep people interested in a Bourne series that no longer stars Jason Bourne. What do you think, is Justin Lin is a good fit for the Bourne franchise?
