David O. Russell’s Nailed May Actually Get Released Sooner Than You Think

nailed

It’s pretty crazy to look back on the past five years and see how much David O. Russell’s career has changed. Back in 2008, he was known as a combative indie director who refused to play nice with studio execs and even his own actors on set. Production on his movie Nailed was a nightmare, largely due to financial problems that halted production several times before eventually shutting it down completely. After that, however, he picked himself up and went on to direct The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook, both of which were nominated for Best Picture and also earned him an Oscar nomination for directing. Now, with his third Oscar-worthy film American Hustle due next month, it appears that Nailed may finally see the light of day. But is this still a movie that he wants to have his name attached to?

According to Rope of Silicon, David O. Russell’s Nailed has received an MPAA rating this week, which would seem to indicate that the movie has been completed and will be released in the near future. Back when David O. Russell left the project, they still had one scene left to shoot. There have since been rumours that the scene was recently filmed without Russell’s involvement and some test screenings were held in Los Angeles. A handful of photos from the film also surfaced on a Jessica Biel fan site earlier this year and producer Kia Jam hinted that a release may still be forthcoming.

So what’s going on with this project? No one seems to know. It’s hard to believe that a movie starring Jessica Biel, Jake Gyllenhaal, Tracy Morgan, James Marsden and Catherine Keener would stay buried forever. On the other hand, the movie sounds like it was pretty out there to begin with; the plot revolves around a small town receptionist who accidentally gets a nail lodged in her head, increasing her sex drive and prompting her to head to Washington to fight for better health care. Are you interested in seeing David O. Russell’s Nailed? Do you think it should still get released even if the director and cast no longer support it?

    Yes

  • RockJoker

    Oh yes.

  • Limey

Definitively a big YES? I was an extra and had a great scene with Jessica when she was giving her speech to the Congress.

  • Matt McNeely

I don’t really like movies that much, so it’s no skin off my back if this never gets released.
