So apparently the first annual YouTube Music Awards happened last night in New York City… because obviously we need more award shows! Still, by all accounts it was a little bit different (read: chaotic), and to prove the point the awards opened with an interesting live one-take music video for Arcade Fire’s song “Afterlife.” Greta Gerwig appears in what seems to be a pre-recorded video that eventually transitions to a live stage performance featuring interpretive dance. It was directed by Spike Jonze (technically his first music video since 2011), who was also apparently the creative director for the entire show. Did you watch the YouTube Music Awards?
