Monday Morning Box Office Report: Ender’s Game Sets Weekend High Score

Ender’s Game took the top spot at the box office over the weekend, exceeding expectations ever so slightly by taking in $28 million. Although this is being spun as a success, it’s worth noting that the movie cost $110 million to make and it is performing well below many of the year’s other big budget sci-fi offerings. Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa had another strong weekend, adding another $20 million to its total, while Last Vegas and Free Birds both underwhelmed (especially the latter). Gravity rounded out the top 5. Elsewhere 12 Years a Slave jumped up a couple of spots as it continues to expand, while Ridley Scott’s The Counselor nearly fell right off the map, dropping 58% in its second weekend. Next week Thor: The Dark World should make short work of the competition.
