Wonder Woman May Appear in Man of Steel Sequel

Zack Snyder’s untitled Batman vs. Superman movie has been all over the blogosphere again this past week since the movie had its first day of shooting in Los Angeles on Saturday. A fictional football game between Gotham City University and Metropolis State University was held at East Los Angeles College although neither Batman nor Superman seemed to be in attendance. Some new rumours have also surfaced indicating that Batman and Superman may not be the only DC superheroes to make an appearance in the film. There is speculation that Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and the Flash could all be involved in some way as Snyder works toward a Justice League movie. In a recent interview, Warner Bros. president of creative development and worldwide production Greg Silverman had this to say about the rumours:

“We have been doing a lot of thinking for years about how to best use all those characters and we love them. Wonder Woman is an amazing character. I think it’s a great opportunity both for box office success, but also to have an amazingly powerful female superhero… We are taking it all very seriously and are trying to do a plan that’s respectful to those characters and maximizes the stories as best they can. So everything that has been speculated are things that we’ve thought about.”

He also re-iterated that Ben Affleck is the “perfect guy” to play Batman. While that’s not exactly a confirmation or a denial of Wonder Woman’s involvement, we already know that all of these other characters are a part of their master plan. The real question is whether or not they will introduce them in this movie or the next one.

It seems unlikely that Wonder Woman would get a solo film right off the bat, especially since there has always been concern that a female superhero might not be able to carry a franchise of her own. My guess is that they will introduce her towards the end of this film (along with Green Lantern and The Flash), but she will not play a major part in Batman vs. Superman. What do you think, do you want to see Wonder Woman on the big screen? Would additional superheroes make you more or less excited about the Man of Steel sequel?

Less would be more for this movie. Maybe one other in a cameo, but don’t go nuts. That works against the X-Men movies when they overstuff them with characters for no reason.

Sounds good to me, as long as they are short introductions of these DC characters (on an Easter egg scale), or either tie into the MoS sequel. Either way, after enjoying his work on Watchmen, I don’t think Snyder will have too much of a hard time with extra heroes added, briefly into the mix. DC does have a bit of catching up to do, and this could be a great way to get it going. All that really matters is that the movie is good.
