Bruce Campbell Teases Army of Darkness 2

It’s a bit of a slow news day, so I figure we might as well take a look at an intriguing rumour that’s been making the rounds even though I think it’s mostly a non-story. It’s no secret that Evil Dead fans have been demanding an Army of Darkness sequel for over two decades now, but most have long since given up hope that another installment will ever happen. While promoting the release of the Evil Dead remake earlier this year, Sam Raimi hinted that a fourth Evil Dead movie could still happen but he was pretty non-committal about it. This week, however, Bruce Campbell has added fuel to the fire with some new comments that he made at the Wizard World Nashville Comic Con on Friday. When asked about the possibility of making Army of Darkness 2, here’s what he had to say:

“The last one was twenty-two years ago. I just haven’t been racing to do it. Sam Raimi is just a little bit busy making the biggest movies in Hollywood. I use to be busy. Now I’m not. That’s why I’m here… Ash would have to stop occasionally from chasing some deadite to catch his breath. Maybe we could do that, I guess. That would be exciting. Fight in a walker. That would be alright. Hit them with my cane. Fake them out, have a fake heart attack, distract a zombie. I like it.”

When pressed further, Campbell responded, “Alright sir, the answer is yes.” While some have taken this to be an official confirmation of an Army of Darkness sequel, it seems pretty clear to me that he was being sarcastic. That being said, I doubt Bruce Campbell is against the idea. It really is a question of whether or not Sam Raimi has the time and the interest to return to that character. From what we know, the only thing he currently has on his plate is the Poltergeist remake, which he is producing. He also directed the pilot episode of the upcoming Fox series Rake starring Greg Kinnear. What do you think, is there actually a possibility that we’ll ever seen a sequel to Army of Darkness?

Oh, yeah…the people need some sugar, and a return of Raimi to a little even when not so low budget movie where he do what he wants, that would be more than sweet.
