Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones Trailer

pamarkedones

After going a year without a new Paranormal Activity movie, the franchise returns early next year with the spin-off, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. We first saw a brief teaser for this movie after the credits of Paranormal Activity 4 last year, where it was hinted that this would actually be a Spanish language film. In the end, it appears that they have decided to keep this a little more accessible with English dialogue but still set within a Latino community and aimed at Latino audiences.

The story takes place in Oxnard, California, and it revolves around the mysterious death of a woman who seems to be connected to Katie and Kristi. It is further tied into the other films by an appearance from Ali (Molly Ephraim), the stepdaughter in Paranormal Activity 2. The mythology is getting pretty convoluted at this point, but could the franchise still have some life left in it? Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones hits theatres on January 3rd, 2014; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

No. No life left in it. Just kidding. Haven’t watched the trailer yet.

Watched it. DOA. Go on your way. Nothing to see here.

With the way this franchise has spiralled (only just saw #4 a few days ago), it’s hard to imagine how much further they could milk this. The most recent one had a few genuinely fun scares, but other than the finale, it grew more and more irritating with how little was actually happening on camera. I think this is the perfect example of ‘attempting’ but mostly failing to build suspense by not actually showing anything. Easy loss for Frank? ;)
