  • Frankie Knuckles

Something wasn’t sitting right with me after the show regarding Kurt’s porn name. When I woke up this morning, I figured out what it was. His real name IS his porn name. Kurt “Half-Yard” i.e. his dick is half a yard long.

  • Tommy

Man. I thought there was way too much score in Gravity. Surprised everyone on the podcast was loving that aspect.

  • Kurt

    That’d be 18 inches.

  • Frankie Knuckles

    EXACTLY

  • Tommy

No mention of the Gravity jump scare, Frank?

  • Joey Sheffield

Really nice to hear the ‘Film Junk’ guys guesting on Kurt’s monologue this week.

  • Sean

I thought the score was subtle enough throughout most of the movie except for the few crucial moments where it really builds to a crescendo. But I guess it might have bothered me more if I didn’t actually like the score as much as I did.

  • Tommy

I had expectations of it being a lot harsher and lonely for the audience than it was, so with the subtle stuff I just wanted to be left with breathing sounds rather than little electronic plinks of music. I though the bombast that came in with the exploding stuff in space really reduced that ‘sound doesn’t carry’ thing.

  • Samb

Yeah, I just can’t do it. Kurt seems like a good dude, but he’s a classic compulsive talker. See you fellows next week.

  • Sam

I’m curious where the Blu-Ray for The Devils that Kurt talks about was released.

I own the BFI UK release of the DVD that came out not too long ago but don’t recall a Blu-Ray coming out.

I know Second Sight in the U.K released Possession though but curious about The Devils.

  • Steve Kroodsma

The only time I had a problem with the score is the Lion King-esque singing during the last shot. That stuff feels insanely over the top.

  • Kurt

    Sorry Folks! :(

  • Kurt

Alas, I really thought the BFI release was in both DVD/BLU, but apparently is only in DVD with no planned HD edition. The (kinda) good news is that the DVD release is pretty swanky in terms of picture quality and compression…but it is the best we’ve got for now.

  • Sean

The way I see it, Kurt just makes up for our awkward pauses and long silences. We understand that not all guests are everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s fun for us to have friends drop by on the show from time to time. We can only hope that fun translates to you guys as well.

  • Tom Nook

I have no idea why Tarantino would like an unsubtle kitchen sink movie….oh wait.

  • Sam

Ah gotcha. Yeah I’m more than happy with the release. Quality was great and features are nice. Love the movie as well. Just was curious if there was a better quality version I might have missed.

  • Frankie Knuckles

The setup was so similar to the Jaws underwater jump scare, saw it coming all the way.

  • bill

    I like you kurt.

  • Sam

    Easy win

  • James

A guest every few weeks (Kurts a great choice) mixes it up a bit. I’m all for it….

  • Andrew James

I don’t think the “Where are you from?” dialogue is a nitpick at all! I thought it was kind of weird during the movie as well. These are two people working side by side in space for 40+ days plus months of training and he’s never asked her where she’s from? That’s not a nitpick; that a perfect example of shitty, lazy dialogue.

  • Andrew James

Also I have the best part name ever: Sunny Birchwood.

  • Ultimo Lee

Can you imagine a podcast with just Kurt and Jay? the butchering of names would be off the frigging scale :D

  • Johnny Boudreaux

Speaking if guests you guys should have Skottie Young back on. He was really good.

  • Sam

I love me some Robert Logya!

  • Cody

    Your loss. Kurt is great.

  • Kasper F. Nielsen

Zero interest in GTA V, so no complaints from me.

  • Andrew James

You’re missing out. One of the most glorious interactive experiences I’ve ever played. It’s beyond outstanding. A huge leap in video gaming.

  • Andrew James

We’ve had the talk before Kurt, but did you just say, “28 Days Later looks like shit?” That’s insane. It’s one of the best looking movies of the aughties. This bugs me as much as people who say Miami Vice looks like shit.

    Wrong. Wrong wrong wrong.

  • Kasper F. Nielsen

I’m just not into sandbox games. I prefer a more guided experience with my big blockbuster games where everything is very well polished, as opposed to a big open world where I can choose to do whatever I please right from the get go.

  • Kasper F. Nielsen

I hardly ever agree with Kurt and it seems we’re off-base once again (This is the end is hilarious, The world’s end isn’t very interesting). Aside from that big props to Kurt for being really interesting and entertaining to listen to this time around. Grade A performance!

  • Kasper F. Nielsen

Too often would definitely be annoying, but once a month would be just about right for a guest to pop by.

A guest I’d like to see return is Dax who was really, really good on the latest Vibe Cast.

  • Sam

I’m boring in that I enjoyed both, but would side with Kurt a bit since I do prefer The World’s End when comparing the two.

  • Sam

Minor correction, though I may have misheard/misunderstood, but it seemed like Kurt referenced The Brother from Another Planet as a Jim Jarmusch movie while talking about Broken Flowers, but it’s actually a John Sayles film.

  • Kasper F. Nielsen

By the way, whoever edited this weeks podcast, big ups on the Marky Mark.

  • Matt Gamble

I’m a big fan of Psycho 2. Its a film that has no business being any good, yet it is a pretty interesting story and a solid twist on the original film and really plays on the audience’s feelings about Norman Bates. It also helps that Richard Franklin is fucking awesome. Watch his movies, the guy knows how to make a film.

  • Joey Sheffield

Ha, sorry Kurt. I’ve learnt my lesson, the ‘Comments’ section is no place for a throwaway sarcastic jibe. Clearly just an enthusiastic guy and I pulled a classic internet. Genuinely sorry man.

  • jarny

i liked kurt but i wanted to kick him in the nuts when he ripped the conjuring but said he liked lone ranger but he redeemed himself with liking gravity

  • T. Heilman

The Psycho sequel scene that featured a character in a Mrs. Bates mask coming down a flight of stairs was from the 1987 t.v. movie Bates Motel, which is not cannon in the Psycho franchise and is truly terrible. I wouldn’t even consider Psycho IV to be part of the original series as it doesn’t mention II or III and attempts to be “the true” sequel/prequel. It further alienates itself by virtue of being a made-for-cable effort directed by Mick Garris. Ugh.

  • Steve Kroodsma

I was listening to this with a co-worker in the room, and when Kurt was bashing The Conjuring he piped up and said “Who the fuck IS this guy?” Great fun.

  • Andrew James

Yeah the score is a bit much. It’s manipulative and cheesy. The “Working Girl” music at the end with a shot from “Attack of the 50ft Woman” is laughable. Literally I laughed out loud.

  • devolutionary

I used to tune into the Cinecast a lot more often but since they’re so long (even broken up over the week), I find I have less time to dedicate. That said, I enjoy Kurt’s often passionate and in-depth discussions on film; however, every now and then he tends to go off on crazy tangents which trigger me to forget what the subject-points were in the first place.

  • Jay Cheel

He has been up there for 40+ days. She has only been up there a week. This would also suggest they didn’t train together.

  • Andrew James

Fair enough. 168 uninterrupted hours together. Probably home town would ever come up. Lazy, uninteresting.

  • Jay Cheel

He’s been up there for 40+ days. She has only been up there a week. This would also suggest they didn’t train together.

  • piggystardust

Are you gonna check out Psycho 4, Jay? I just finished reading Stephen King’s latest novel and he praised it as being just as good as the original in the book’s afterward.

So Sean didn’t like the black guy in Don Jon and he doesn’t like Steve McQueen or Jamie Foxx. Hmmm! Interesting!

Didn’t know the stair sequence was cut from most copies of the Exorcist. When I watched it for the first time, I just thought Netflix screwed me. I’d always heard of that famous scene and was anticipating it.

  • piggystardust

It does look terrible. I felt like a fool for paying the extra buck to stream it in HD on amazon instant video.

  • Sean

I like Steve McQueen’s films, he just comes across as a real dick sometimes. And the black guy in Don Jon felt out of place, almost like a token black guy. If anything, he was too nice to be friends with those guys.

  • James

Dax, Nuno, Kurt…any or all would work for me. Every 3 or 4 weeks.

  • Sam

Jamie Foxx is definitely an ass though, right?
