New to Theatres This Weekend: Gravity, Runner Runner, Metallica Through the Never

It’s been seven long years since Alfonso Cuaron’s last film, Children of Men, but based on the insane buzz for his new film Gravity, it seems to have been well worth the wait. The intense sci-fi thriller will be going head to head with the crime drama Runner Runner starring Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake this weekend, although Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 could provide a challenge in its second weekend as well. Expectations for Gravity are extremely high, but does it have what it takes to be a huge hit? Metallica: Through the Never is also expanding beyond IMAX theatres this weekend, and Captain Phillips is holding sneak previews across North America on Saturday night. Other noteworthy flicks in limited release include A.C.O.D. starring Adam Scott, the J.F.K. assassination drama Parkland and the Jeremy Lin documentary Linsanity. What will you be watching this weekend?

  • Hoping to catch Gravity in Imax this week. And Cloudy. And Don Jon, I hope you guys get a chance to review that one.
