The timing of Tom Clancy’s death now seems a little unfortunate, but Paramount has chosen to continue along with the first marketing push for their upcoming reboot of his Jack Ryan movie franchise anyway. The new movie is apparently titled Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, although it previously went under the names Jack Ryan: Shadow One and, before that, simply Jack Ryan. Chris Pine stars as the famous CIA analyst back at the beginning of his career, hopefully with many more additional adventures soon to follow.

The story is not, however, based on any specific Tom Clancy novel; instead the original script was written by Adam Cozad and David Koepp (Angels & Demons, Premium Rush). Kenneth Branagh (Thor) is directing and also happens to be playing the main villain, while Kevin Costner and Keira Knightley also co-star. Jack Ryan: Shadow One is expected to hit theatres on Dec. 25th, although based on earlier rumours and the fact that the trailer merely says “Coming Soon” that may no longer be the case.
