Monday Morning Box Office Report: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 Makes it Rain

As expected, it was an easy win at the box office for the animated sequel Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. However, it only earned $5 million more than the original, which could be seen as a slight disappointment for Sony. Prisoners fell some 46% to second place, earning $11.3 million, while Ron Howard’s Rush could only manage third place, debuting to $10.3 million. Apparently even the star power of Chris Hemsworth could not get American audiences excited about Formula One racing. Baggage Claim and Don Jon rounded out the top 5. Elsewhere, Riddick has already dropped out of the top 10 but We’re the Millers is still holding strong in its eighth weekend.
