Monday Morning Box Office Report: Prisoners Locks Up the Win

It was a slow fall weekend at the box office but Prisoners managed to take the top spot by bringing out an older crowd, earning $21 million despite the dark subject matter. That puts it in the same league as Ben Affleck’s The Town, Argo, and most of the other thrillers that Warner Brothers tends to release around this time of year. Meanwhile Insidious: Chapter 2 had a pretty steep drop to second place, taking in another $14.5 million while Luc Besson’s The Family fell to #3. After another expansion, Instructions Not Included climbed back up to fourth place as it is quickly becoming one of the highest grossing foreign films of all time, and the 3D dance movie Battle of the Year completely tanked, earning just $5 million. Could the dance movie craze finally be on its way out?
