Monday Morning Box Office Report: Insidious Chapter 2 Scares Up the Second Best September Debut Ever

It was another big win for James Wan this past weekend as Insidious: Chapter 2 became his second horror movie to open with over $40 million in 2013. The sequel earned $41 million which is three times what the original made and also the second highest September opening ever (Hotel Transylvania made $42.5 million last year). Considering that the movie cost just $5 million to produce, I think FilmDistrict will be very happy with that return. In a distant second, The Family earned $14.5 million, which is actually Luc Besson’s second best debut ever. Elsewhere, Riddick dropped to #3 and Lee Daniels’ The Butler fell to #4, while We’re the Millers is somehow still hanging in the top 5.
