Depending on what you thought of movies like Oblivion, Elysium and Pacific Rim, it’s been a pretty decent year for sci-fi so far (and, in particular, original sci-fi). Of course, we still have movies like Gravity and Ender’s Game to look forward to as well, but if you want something with a horror angle, you might be interested in the upcoming thriller The Last Days on Mars. It seems to bear a little more resemblance to movies like Apollo 18 or Europa Report although it’s not a found footage film.

The movie is the directorial debut of Irish filmmaker Ruairi Robinson, who was once attached to direct Voltron and Akira live action movies. He is a commercial director known for his VFX skills and for this movie he is supposedly getting a helping hand from WETA Digital. Last Days on Mars hits theatres in the U.K. on Sept. 19th and in the U.S. on Dec. 6th, and the cast includes Liev Schreiber, Romola Garai, Elias Koteas, and Olivia Williams.
