Monday Morning Box Office Report: Riddick Routs Ragtag Roster

It was another dull weekend at the multiplex as Riddick cruised to an easy win over the competition. The movie took in $18.7 million, which is more than Pitch Black made in its opening weekend back in 2000 but less than The Chronicles of Riddick. It’s unclear if we will see more Riddick flicks in the future, but this one will probably make its $38 million budget back and that’s about it. Lee Daniels’ The Butler held on to the #2 spot and added another $8.9 million to Harvey Weinstein’s pockets while Spanish-language comedy Instructions Not Included jumped up to third place with $8.1 million. We’re the Millers and Planes rounded out the top 5. Meanwhile, last weekend’s #1 film, One Direction: This is Us, dropped all the way to sixth, and not surprisingly, Getaway has already dropped out of the top 10.

1. Riddick — $18.7M
2. The Butler — $8.9M
3. Instructions Not Included — $8.1M
4. We’re the Millers — $7.92M
5. Planes — $4.27M
6. One Direction: This Is Us — $4.1M
7. Elysium — $3.1M
8. Blue Jasmine — $2.69M
9. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters — $2.5M
10. The World’s End — $2.3M

‘Instructions Not Included’, is that a sequel to the 1987 classic ‘*Batteries Not Included’?

I saw a couple ads for it on E! leading up to it’s release, and even after having been out for a couple of weeks, I’m still not sure it’s a real movie. It looks like it might be a feature-length Sabado Gigante sketch.
