This reminds me of the aging rock star who releases a re-recorded Greatest Hits CD. Emmerich has made a few flops so he’s going back to the well of his initial success. If there hadn’t been a StarGate TV, I’d say the StarGate sequel/reboot was a decent idea…but that’s been mined out. An ID4 sequel is a terrible idea: what, will the new aliens destroy the piles of rubble? Pass. Emmerich needs to do what Michael Bay did: get toy line and turn it into a franchise. Emmerich, make that Hungry Hungry Hippos Trilogy none of knew we wanted.

Stargate TV is quite nice, also it was a RDA showcase, which is a good case for most people. And with 3 (4 incl. Animated) Series and a legion (size may be bigger on the outside than the real paying inside) of fans a reboot may work, just to spare the viewer a 3 Hour Introduction in Stargate Lore.

ID4 with Will Smith will be good point, but i doubt it will be a classic 70s desaster film with a multitude of actor all having a line or two. It would be a Will Smith vehicle, with a BIG Star. the oposite to all other Emmerich Films (exception Patriot).

If the producer will give the money is douptful, esp. since it is unknown if Will Smith has the power to draw a big enough crowd to make it profitable (assume it will cost as much as White House Down 150 Mil.) is after his After Earth shipwreck (also the asian Market loved it and should be in the green money wise) and the White house down debacle.

The best Emmerich-related sequels that you’re likely to see are the ones he had no hand in, and those would be the last 2 “Universal Soldier” flicks. They were straight-to-video or VOD (which is essentially the same thing), but they’re pretty fantastic. I would gladly pay for a “Universal Soldier” premium podcast that also includes the shitty theatrical sequel (“The Return”). You wouldn’t even have to subject yourselves to the shitty made-for-cable TV movies…unless you wanted to. Hell, we might eventually get the short version in “What We Watched” anyway…
