Thanks for the show! I have to say though, I miss the three hour shows. Seems like since Greg left episodes have been shorter and shorter, which is understandable. Just an observation. Keep up the great work.

  • Sean

I hear ya… it hasn’t been a conscious decision to make the show shorter, it’s mainly just because we’ve been doing less junk mail and news. But I think this week the reviews ended up being shorter than usual too.

  • Colin

You guys not get The Grandmaster up there?

  • Sean

We got it, but just had more interest in these movies.

  • kent88

    For the last time…

Woody Allen fucked his then girlfriend’s (Mia Farrow) adoptive daughter – who was around 20 at the time. She was never Allen’s adoptive child, and she was not underage.

An undeniably douchey and weird thing to do, no doubt, but it’s not incest, and it’s not pedophilia.

It’s actually kind of baffling how the media has skewed that story over the years.

  • Colin

I’m surprised, because Jay has shown interest in WKW in the past. It’s certainly no Getaway or We’re the Millers, though :D

  • Indianamcclain

Hey Sean, I was wondering if you could tell me where the intro music from the original 80 episodes came from. Specifically, I’m talking about the one that has a female choir and sounds like something from the 70’s. If you can’t remember I understand. Btw thank you for posting the older episodes.

..does anyone know if The Wire is ever going to be released on Blu-ray? ..is it even technically possible to be released at a higher resolution?

  • Christopher Harvey

The premium podcasts are a welcome addition and make up for the shorter episodes.

  • Sean

If i remember correctly it’s called “Music to Watch Space Girls By.” It’s from the William Shatner / Leonard Nimoy album Spaced Out.

I don’t mind the episodes being generally shorter, Film Junk anno 2013. The only thing I feel is generally missing these days – or that there’s fewer of – is slice of life stories. I don’t know if that just depends on the circumstances of you guys’ lives, or if it’s a conscious decision, but some of my all-time highlights are definitely various stories not even related to film, but rather vagina fries and anal exams.

That’s not to complain or anything, as there’s plenty of other great stuff and you guys have definitely been on a roll the past few months with some of your best shows in years, but rather just an observation.

When it comes to Woody Allen, people have always said that he’s more concerned with the writing/acting than developing a unique visual style. I feel a real connection with the guy, so I’m probably biased. I watch each of his films with an uncritical eye as if it were made by a close friend. I’m just happy to see his name up on the screen each year.

I agree about the horrible CG plane though. Completely unnecessary. When I saw that in the theater I heard my mom whisper under her breath “wow, what a shot!”.

  • Andrew James

That shark was astounding! I thought it was actually real until I got home and found out it wasn’t.

The effects in this thing we’re pretty brilliant.

  • douglasfur

Greg always provided great slice of life stories. Too bad he was excommunicated.

  • ECONOMYpolitica

Can’t believe nobody mentioned A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE.

I appreciate the work that you and the guys put in Sean. It’s awesome that you put up the old shows recently, and listening to those made me realize how badass it is that you guys have been putting out this show every week for close to ten years. I mean it really is incredible that ya’ll manage to put out a show every week, in addition to occasional Ball Junk/Game Junk/and Movie Club Podcasts AND a monthly premium podcast. So I really don’t think anyone has anything to complain about. I mean yes the 3 hour shows are awesome, but it’s not like this weeks show was an hour long or something.

  • @Sean Highly recommend checking out the 3 hour documentary called Woody Allen. It is on Netflix, just watched it, and if you want to get a grasp of Woody it is pretty amazing. Goes through most of his films, gives you a flavor of them, a lot of Woody in his own words, some surprising stuff (like he hated Manhattan and didn’t want to show it).

  • Sean

    Thanks Drew!

  • Sean

Nice, I do remember seeing that on there. I will add it to my queue. Thanks!

  • Indianamcclain

    Thanks Sean

Alright, I guess I’ll be speaking for DVD extras here, since I feel (and I am perhaps mistaken) that there was a general vibe from the crew during the news segment of “who really cares about extras”.

Maybe it’s because you guys mostly buy DVD’s/Blu-Ray’s and not rent them, but as someone who is still renting from time to time, extras are the only reason for me to bother doing that, because they are the only thing that Netflix and other services like it cannot yet provide. Sure, some bonus stuff, especially on new Hollywood releases, is just EPK fluff, but one cannot discount there are some excellent extras packages out there that makes it worth using physical media even if you only watch them once. Out of all of these the best is the commentary. I have no interest in rewatching Star Trek Into Darkness but if I had such a desire and planned on buying the Blu-Ray I would certainly think twice after Paramount’s dick move of throwing the commentary exclusively on itunes.

I also originally figured that Gotham was a reference to New York, but it appears that the original Batman graphical series made allusions of Gotham to Chicago. Something to do with how the city is portrayed with numerous back allies, which apparently New York doesn’t have? Various later adaptations of Batman shifted the scene to mimic New York. Though I really like Frank Miller’s take on the New York daytime/nighttime angle.

  • Indianamcclain

    Completely agree

  • Gerry

Yep, slice of life stories were some of my favourite film junk bits ever and Greg had some great ones.

Whatever happened to Jay’s stories of sticking it to the blu ray retailer man? They were great too.

Frank pulling his weight re these stories would be nice, I don’t remember any for him, above very cursory details.

Tiff coverage should include the social and food aspect that Greg used to provide, not just film reviews.

  • Brad Mull

In relation to gothams real location, in batman forever two face flies his chopper into the Statue of Liberty.

  • Wayne Regier
  • Matt the Kiwi

K.O.C! Nice to hear you finally got your Flynn on. Fingers crossed Gregg will special guest at some stage and report back on Gentleman Jim.
Re-watched my Point Break DVD after hearing your review – had forgotten the Red Hot Chili Peppers were in there as the “bad” surfie gang. They should get One Direction to be the baddies in the Point Break remake.

Where can I find more information about the different cuts of “Kon-Tiki”? Could just find articles about the two different language versions, but nothing about missing scenes in one of the versions.
