Kurt Russell in Talks for Fast & Furious 7

Well played, Universal… well played. Over the past month or two, director James Wan has seemingly been in the process of assembling an all-star cast in the vein of The Expendables for the latest installment of the Fast & Furious franchise — the difference being that they are focusing current or up and coming stars as opposed to older, creaky veterans. For example, earlier this week, it was announced that Tony Jaa had joined the cast of Fast & Furious 7, virtually guaranteeing some killer hand-to-hand action sequences in the new film. But this latest casting news directly violates the policy of sticking with younger faces. It would appear that Kurt Russell is on the verge of signing on to the film, and if it happens, it will definitely be stealing a bit of thunder out from under Sylvester Stallone.

According to Variety, Kurt Russell is currently in negotiations to join Fast & Furious 7. The role is currently unspecified, but reports suggest that it is the same role originally offered to Denzel Washington, who turned it down. While Russell clearly does not have the same box office draw as Denzel, he does bring with him a swagger of his own.

Russell, of course, starred in Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof playing a character named Stuntman Mike, who probably would not seem out of place in a Fast & Furious flick. Since then, however, Russell has not done much although he is seemingly on a bit of a comeback with the heist flick The Art of the Steal and the brilliantly titled Bone Tomahawk on the way. Do you think Russell would make a good addition to this franchise? Does the news make you even more excited for Fast & Furious 7?
