Todd McFarlane Says Spawn Reboot is Coming Soon

We’ve been hearing Todd McFarlane rave about his planned Spawn reboot for years now, but at this point, I think a lot of fans have given up on the idea of it ever becoming a reality. McFarlane is one of those guys who likes to talk a big game but does not always follow through, and the fact of the matter is, the comic is nowhere near as popular as it once was. Also, people have not forgotten the failure of the 1997 film. Still, McFarlane apparently intends to write, direct and produce the entire film himself, and he continues to insist that it will happen as soon as he can free up his schedule. His latest comment on the project indicates that it might actually shoot as early as next year. Here’s what he had to say:
“The reality is that I’ve got a lot of pressure. They want me to deliver the script by the end of the year, which would basically mean we’d be shooting next year. So, that’s the goal right now… The thing that keeps slowing it down is that the negotiation I’ve done is I write, produce, direct, but I’ve got to push a lot of my other endeavours off to the side so I can just get tunnel vision on it. And so everybody at my company is now going, ‘We’ve got to find Todd the time to finish all this.'”
He also says that the movie will have a smaller budget and less emphasis on special effects, in other words, it will be “more of a horror movie and a thriller movie, not a superhero one.” He even has some big name actors interested in the project (Jamie Foxx has been dropping hints that he wants to star in it), but without a finished script, the movie still seems like wishful thinking. What do you think, are you interested in another Spawn movie? Do you think this project will ever actually see the light of day?
