Monday Morning Box Office Report: Kick-Ass 2 Gets Served By The Butler

It was a showdown between four major releases at the box office last weekend, unfortunately all but one of those movies barely even bothered to show up. Lee Daniels’ The Butler easily came out on top with a $25 million debut; that puts it about on par with what The Help made around the same time two years ago. The star power and Oscar buzz definitely helped, but then again, so did the lack of competition. We’re The Millers surprisingly came in second with $17.8 million, putting in a much better second weekend than Elysium which fell to #3 with $13.6 million. Kick-Ass 2 just narrowly missed out on third place and opened in fourth with about the same amount as Elysium (significantly less than the original Kick-Ass made). Disney’s Planes rounded out the top 5. Elsewhere, both Jobs and Paranoia simply bombed, opening at #7 and #13 respectively.
