New to Theatres This Weekend: The Wolverine, The To-Do List, Blue Jasmine

It may seem like a new Wolverine movie should be a pretty big deal, but somehow there just hasn’t been much buzz out there for James Mangold’s The Wolverine this weekend. The movie has been completely overshadowed by Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel, and now with audiences starting to tire of the summer blockbuster season, it’s hard to predict how it will do. The movie is still expected to top the box office (especially since it is the only major new release), but it could be a bumpy ride. The To-Do List starring Aubrey Plaza also provides the only real alternative on over 500 screens, while acclaimed indies Fruitvale Station and The Way, Way Back are both expanding across the U.S. this weekend. In select theatres, we also have Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine and Johnnie To’s Drug War. What will you be watching this weekend?

What are the reviews on this week’s show?

  • Sean

The Wolverine, The Conjuring, Only God Forgives, plus Jay and Frank also saw R.I.P.D. and Grown Ups 2. Are we missing anything?

  • Jay Cheel

Me and Frank also saw Red 2.

Looking forward to Frank’s convoluted excuse for why he could not see The Conjuring.

Should he claim to have seen it – and neither Sean nor Jay were there to verify – it’s worth interrogating to make sure he’s not just repeating something he’s read elsewhere.

Respectability is on the line here, chaps. Don’t be gentle.
