New to Theatres This Weekend: R.I.P.D., The Conjuring, Red 2, Only God Forgives

Well it is arguably the most deadly and jam-packed weekend of the summer, if only because there are four major releases duking it out. While none of them are expected to be massive blockbusters, there is strong potential for a couple of surprise hits and also a couple of box office bombs. Ryan Reynolds actually has two movies opening this weekend including the action-comedy R.I.P.D. co-starring Jeff Bridges and the animated film Turbo. James Wan’s latest horror flick The Conjuring also hits theatres this weekend riding a massive wave of hype, and then there is Red 2, the comic book sequel that has been mostly overshadowed by all of the other summer blockbusters. Who will come away victorious? It’s too close to call. In select theatres, we also have Nicolas Winding Refn’s Only God Forgives starring Ryan Gosling, Girl Most Likely starring Kristen Wiig, and a pair of hard-hitting documentaries: Act of Killing and Blackfish.
