New to Theatres This Weekend: Pacific Rim, Grown Ups 2, Fruitvale Station

PACIFIC RIM

One of the biggest question marks of the summer hits theatres this weekend as Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim wades into the fray and starts swinging. Early reviews have been fairly positive, but it remains to be seen if this non-franchise flick can piggyback on the mainstream success of the Transformers films or if it will just attract a niche audience. Grown Ups 2 is also looking to build on the success of the previous film, quite possibly challenging Identity Thief as the biggest comedy of the year (despite the fact that it is currently sitting at 8% on Rotten Tomatoes). In select theatres, we have the Sundance hit Fruitvale Station starring Michael B. Jordan, acclaimed Danish drama The Hunt starring Mads Mikkelsen, and Killing Season starring John Travolta and Robert DeNiro (not to mention V/H/S/2, which has already been available on demand for a while now). What will you be watching this weekend?

Y’all should really do a review of The Hunt.

Hope Rim come out swinging, even when the lone Ranger is not much of a enemy for such a monster of a movie. And it would proof that all it takes is not a “series” or “Reboot” or “Relauch” but just a good old jolly good movie, to have a good time and enjoy the movie.

The Hunt and Fruitvale look like the best overall films to see this weekend. However, in terms of the big budget stuff, Pacific Rim rocked. Guillermo is currently having his ass hand to him though by an animated sequel, Adam Sandler with some has beens, and fat lady fall down go boom. At least something with heft and an important story like Fruitvale is doing well in limited release.
