Arnold Schwarzenegger to Star in Zombie Flick Maggie

With the $200 million zombie movie World War Z hitting theatres this weekend, I think it’s safe to say that zombies have hit the mainstream. The undead are big business, no longer solely the domain of a small group of obsessive gorehounds. For more proof of that fact, just check out this next bit of news: Arnold Schwarzenegger has added a zombie movie to his quickly growing list of upcoming projects. Sadly, if you were hoping to see The Governator simply blow out some zombie brains, it sounds like this is a slightly more “emotional” piece. The movie is called Maggie and it revolves around a father “on a journey to help his daughter come to terms with her infection as she slowly becomes a zombie.” Schwarzenegger will play that father.
According to Variety, Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed on to star in and produce Maggie. Based on the Black List script by John Scott 3, the movie will be helmed by title designer turned director Henry Hobson (both of whom were also attached to adapt Isaac Asimov’s The Caves of Steel). Chloe Moretz was in negotiations to play the zombie but eventually had to drop out due to scheduling issues.
Schwarzenegger has not been wasting any time with his return to the big screen. This is one of several projects on his plate, including:
- Escape Plan (directed by Mikael Hafstrom, co-starring Sylvester Stallone)
- Breacher (directed by David Ayer)
- The Expendables 3
- Terminator 5
- The Legend of Conan
- The Unknown Soldier (from the directors of Act of Valor)
- Captive (directed by Nicolai Fuglsig)
- Triplets (aka the Twins sequel)
How do you feel about Arnold’s upcoming slate of films? Is he taking on too many projects? Which ones are you most looking forward to?
