The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Trailer

THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG

Despite the lukewarm reviews of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and the mixed feelings over Peter Jackson’s decision to extend it into a trilogy, I’m sure we’re all trying to remain optimistic about the next two installments and hoping they all add up to one solid adventure. There are definitely still plenty of exciting things to look forward to this time around, including the return of Orlando Bloom as Legolas and the introduction of Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel. Of course, perhaps the most anticipated reveal is that of the titular dragon himself, Smaug.

The first teaser trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has arrived online and it definitely continues to push a more epic feel similar to The Lord of the Rings. They do not play coy with Smaug either, giving us a pretty good look at him towards the end (although we don’t get to hear Benedict Cumberbatch’s voice just yet). Are you excited to head back to Middle Earth once again this holiday season? The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits theatres on Dec. 13th; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

OK, lets wait and see if this is a Empire or if this turns out to be a reloaded Lord.

Some of those action set-pieces are going to look great in 48fps. Looking forward to this.

  • Film Ape

    Your mom desolates Smaug.

  • Joachim Lothe-Rikenberg

it just feels so off some how.

Looks like there will be the same issues for me with the cgi instead of practical, but other than that I think it looks awesome. I’m ready for more. Bring on Evangeline..

I’m really pretty positive about the first film and this upcoming one even more so. The one I’m really worried about having a point for me is the third, as that seems to be where they’re going to have to shove the most filler. They really should have stuck to two films on this one.

  • Rob Goddard

they still have a lot to cover
will this movie take us up until the end of smaug? and then beyond that there is still the battle of five armies, elven side plots, white council side plots, grey orc side plots, plus any other material they fold in.

  • Owozifa

If there’s no dragon in the third movie I think I’m just significantly less interested in it.
