Man of Steel Sequel Already Moving Forward, David Goyer Also Writing Justice League?

As you may have noticed, quite a few bloggers and film critics saw Man of Steel last night and early reviews are starting to flood the internet. For the most part, the reaction seems to be pretty positive and Warner Brothers is clearly anticipating a massive opening weekend for the film. As a result, they are already moving forward with a sequel and it looks like the same writer / director team will return. While it does feel like they are going a little overboard in showing us just how confident they are in the movie, at this point it seems highly unlikely that Man of Steel won’t successfully launch a new franchise. But does this mean the proposed Justice League movie won’t be happening right away? Based on a recent update, it sounds like Justice League may actually end up being the third installment in a Man of Steel trilogy with the very same creative team behind it.

According to Deadline, Warner Brothers is fast-tracking a Man of Steel sequel with both Zack Snyder and David S. Goyer attached to return in their respective roles. Goyer is now said to have a three-picture deal with Warner Brothers to pen Man of Steel, its sequel, and Justice League (which also implies that this is the order that they will be released in). Either way, it sounds like the original script from Will Beall (Gangster Squad) is definitely off the table and Goyer will be steering the franchise from here on in. Yikes.

Personally, I’ve never been that impressed with Goyer’s writing, so I hope Christopher Nolan maintains some involvement. It appears that he will at least produce the Man of Steel sequel, even though he will be much more hands off this time around. There’s still no word on whether Zack Snyder is attached for Justice League as well, but earlier this year it was rumoured that Warner Brothers definitely had him in mind for the project. Are you happy that they are sticking with Snyder and Goyer for the Man of Steel sequel? Do you think they will also be the best choice to take on a Justice League movie?

I didn’t realize Goyer wrote a lot of shlock like Puppet Master vs. Demonic toys…but I did enjoy the Nolan Dark Knight Series, Dark City, Blade 1, so I guess I’m OK with him helming future DC properties. But I haven’t seen MOS yet so we’ll see.

  • Yeesh, WB are really putting all their hopes and dreams into this. Why don’t we just wait to see how this first one does, then they can worry about squeezing every penny out of it and running it into the ground.

Watchmen showed me that Snyder can handle multiple heroes, so I think he could manage the JL. But first, we have to see if the first one is any good.
