Prepare yourselves for another earth-shattering Expendables 3 casting rumour! As the third installment gears up for a production start in August, we’re finally getting some concrete details on who will be added to the all-star action extravaganza this time around. Last week we learned that Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Nicolas Cage and Milla Jovovich were all in advanced negotiations to star in the film. However, there are plenty of other promises that Stallone made on Twitter that have not come to fruition as of yet, one of which was the possibility of Mel Gibson directing the film. When it was announced that Patrick Hughes would be helming the movie instead, it seemed that Gibson had better things to do. But could the Gibber still be involved in another way? Word on the street is that he may actually end up in front of the camera instead of behind it.

According to Showbiz 411, Mel Gibson may actually be starring in The Expendables 3 instead of directing it. According to an inside source, he will play the villain in the new film. This is still far from confirmed, but it certainly seems feasible. When Stallone tweeted that “Mel’s living his own life”, it could have easily been a classic case of misdirection.

There is one problem though: Mel Gibson is already playing a bad guy in Machete Kills (eccentric billionaire arms dealer Luther Voz), which will hit theatres in September. While playing a villain might make sense given his current public persona, it feels like the joke will be worn out by the time The Expendables 3 rolls around.
