This Week on DVD and Blu-ray: A Good Day to Die Hard, Identity Thief, Mad Max Trilogy on Blu-ray

dvdmadmaxtrilogy

We’ve got a couple of this year’s biggest pre-summer movies hitting DVD and Blu-ray this week, although neither of them were particularly well-received critically. Both A Good Day to Die Hard and Identity Thief did quite well back in February but now that the summer movies are here they are starting to pale in comparison. Other major releases include the zombie romantic comedy Warm Bodies, end-of-the-world comedy It’s a Disaster, and uh… 12 Rounds 2: Reloaded. Fortunately, the fifth season of Breaking Bad is also hitting stores this week and the Mad Max Trilogy is making its debut on Blu, along with the ’90s big screen take on The Shadow starring Alec Baldwin. Will you be buying or renting anything this week? Check out the full list of releases after the jump.

Can anyone confirm if the Mad Max collection actually has that horrid blue banner across the front? If so, is it removable like the Upstream Color blu-ray?

  • Sam

Just looked up an unboxing of it, and that Blu-ray banner slides right off.

I’m kind off iffy on the actual packaging though:

Still plan to pick it up I suppose, along with Dirty Mary Crazy Larry/Race with the Devil

I keep hearing that Shout Factory is doing a Collector’s Edition release of The Shadow otherwise I’d be picking that up as it’s one of my personal favorite superhero movies. I’ve always loved that pulpy kind of atmosphere and Jerry Goldsmith’s score is amazing.

I’ll probably skip the Mad Max trilogy set and just get Beyond Thunderdome, because I already have the other two. I know The Road Warrior got a bit of an upgrade, but I might delay deciding if I want to re-purchase.

The Spanish Region-B Mad Max trilogy has much nicer packaging. The discs are housed in a metal gas can that looks like the Reservoir Dogs dvd set from years back. The art is much nicer too. This looks like ass. Even if Thunderdome was good I wouldn’t pick it up

@ Sean I can recall a number of years back a you saying something about a Mad Max black and white re-boot. Any ideas what happened to that? Cheers

  • Sean

I don’t remember that specifically but I’m assuming it is the project that eventually became Mad Max: Fury Road, which is supposed to be out in 2014.

  • Jake Miles

    That’s the one, great!
