A Band Called Death Trailer

If you were a fan of Malik Bendjelloul’s Oscar-nominated documentary Searching for Sugar Man, here’s another upcoming rock doc that you might be interested in. A Band Called Death also tells the story of a band that remained in obscurity for most of their career only to be “rediscovered” decades later. The band is called (you guessed it) Death and they were an African-American trio from Detroit playing punk rock years before punk rock truly existed.

The movie features interviews with luminaries such as Henry Rollins and Alice Cooper but the story also supposedly packs the same emotional punch as the journey of Rodriguez. It played at SXSW earlier this year where it was acquired by Drafthouse Films. A Band Called Death is currently available on VOD and will hit select theatres on June 28th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
