Couldn’t have come at a better time.

  • Game Junk yeah! I know it breaks the quarter-annual trend, but I hope you guys will be back in a month to talk about e3 too!

    love love love the show

  • Sam

Love the Guacamelee music intro! My personal game of the year so far, interested to keep listening to hear thoughts.

  • csidle

Did you get to play FIFA 14 early, or just mistype 13?

  • Oops… yeah, typo.

  • kyri

You mention so many things especially at the beginning it would be nice if this was a video-podcast and you had attached some annotations or video footage of the things you talked about…. too lazy to pause and use google.

    Sorry if I sound ungrateful..

  • Danno

Thanks guys. it’s WAY beyond time for another episode.

  • dirrrtyfrank

Here’s the game I’ve been working on with PixelNAUTS.

    Like it up!

Time to copy frank! Citizens of Earth!

  • Kasper

I’m a Sony fanboy all the way. Happy to hear that Frank is swaying that way too and naturally Andrew is on board.

Regarding Guacamelee I’m very excited to play that game, but to be honest I almost only know about it because they’ve been praising it on Podcast Beyond. That game has had HORRIBLE pr handling with no visibility at all – and I write about games for a living, so I really should know more about it, but it just popped up out of nowhere. Hopefully it won’t hurt the sales.

Even if there’s no money for traditional pr, you need to go out and do a ton of interviews – and if the press doesn’t have you on the radar take the initiative! Create some buzz, partner up and do some exclusive give-aways with various sites in exchange for good placement on the site, etc. Something which would have made a lot of sense and would have given the game a lot of exposure was visiting IGN’s weekly talkshow Up At Noon and paired that with a give-away.

But hey, maybe the game doesn’t need any sorts of pr and has done excellent on word of mouth, who knows?

  • Sam

Try out Guacamelee, if you old school 2D platform combat games, you won’t be disappointed.

I bought the game day one, and got the platinum within a week. I get really addicted to the game.

Also, I listened to tons of gaming podcasts before ever coming across Film Junk/Game Junk and it’s nice to come across one that not only doesn’t crap on the PS3 but actually prefers it without sounding fanboyish. Podcast Beyond is nice, but it does get pretty Fanboyish often.

For me, it’s no contest of PS3 > 360. I used my 360 mainly to play games like Mark of the Ninja, Fez, Shadow Complex, etc..

#13 ” Podcast Beyond is nice, but it does get pretty Fanboyish often.”

Which is what’s so awesome about it. BEYOND!

  • HuckCity

Talk of any other podcasts that record more than once a month are banned here! ;)

  • Kasper

Oh, one more thing. I’m pretty sure Skype is already on the Vita. Sean just keeps mentioning that with regards to Xbone.

Gonna be interesting to see if PS4 will have Skype too, since Vita has it.

  • True, but the Vita isn’t on my TV. I like the idea of Skype being in my living room on my TV.

  • Sam

Frank: Another good place to get the 6 hit combo Trophy in Guacamelee is in the Chicken Cavern area, forget exactly what it’s called, the one with three long combat areas.

In the third area of that place (and the most difficult), the very first battle arena, there’s a big skeleton dude with a hammer glowing white and he’s the only guy in that arena. He won’t stop glowing unless you hit him with normal moves, so you can keep trying and trying to connect the combo until you get without killing him and he’s big target to hit.

Here’s a video of someone doing it the way I did it, though they take a little more time in this one to do it as it’s pretty easy once you know what to do exactly:

Also, I’m curious when finally try to get all 6 orbs. There’s the tree tops one that is extremely hard, and then also another with disappearing platforms that isn’t as hard but still challenging.

  • Kasper

Gotta disagree with Sean, not all of the old polygonal games have gone sour. The PS1 Crash Bandicoot games are still AMAZING to this day. I can’t believe Frank let that comment slide!

    Favorite “consoles” of all time:

    5: Commodore 64
    4: PlayStation 3
    3: Amiga
    2: PlayStation 2
    1: PlayStation 1

  • PlanBFromOuterSpace

I don’t know what this “The Room” game is, and I haven’t gotten to the part where you talk about it, but I can only assume that it’s the greatest Rooftop Tuxedo Football game that we’ll ever play.

  • Paul Andrews

    Excellent listening. Thanks.

  • Owozifa

A person could infer you’re from Europe just by looking at that console list.

  • Kasper

    #22 Yup!

Disregarding my Commodore 64 and my Amiga 500, I’ve only ever owned Sony and Nintendo consoles. Never had a SEGA or an Xbox – and I’m too young to even have seen an Atari IRL.

  • Matt

It was a great surpriseto see a new episode of game junk out. Thank you!

Anyone think next episode should be a The Last of Us review + E3 impressions? Maybe shoot for mid July?

  • HuckCity

Not sure about The Last of Us review, but we did talk about trying to do a post-E3 show, though it will really come down to trying to figure out a time we can all get together to record.

  • Tum Tum Tyranus

Just saw the Sony presser and wow, so damn happy! Microsoft must now backpedal or they are fucked. Even when they do, PS4 having a competitive 399 price tag means we are gonna have one hell of a console war. I fucking love it.
