Monday Morning Box Office Report: Iron Man Immovable, Gatsby Also Great

I don’t think anyone will be shocked to see Iron Man 3 at the top of the box office again this weekend, but The Great Gatsby did come a lot closer to catching it than most people expected. In its second weekend, Iron Man 3 earned another $72.5 million, which is the fourth best second weekend ever. The movie is now sitting at $948 million worldwide and will probably cross the billion dollar mark very soon. Gatsby, on the other hand, opened to an amazing $51.1 million, which is already more than any of Baz Luhrman’s other movies have made with the exception of Moulin Rouge. Clearly the movie had mass appeal, but audiences seemed to avoid 3D screenings as the 3D ticket sales only made up for 33% of its total. On the other hand, the weekend’s other major release, the Tyler Perry-produced comedy Peeples, bombed hard, pulling in just $4.85 million.
