    ~~~One minute in and I’m feeling those chill vibes all the way down in Fort Worth, Texas~~~
  • PlanBFromOuterSpace
    I’m most of the way through the Iron Man 3 review so far, and I’ve noticed with the Shane Black-isms that no one (not just you guys) has mentioned that they even extend to the opening credits. Like in “Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang”, Downey gets a little ahead of himself with the narration, so much so that he even gets ahead of the Marvel and Paramount logos, which is a first in these movies. It’s just a little thing, but I really dug it.
    *SPOILER*
    I think it’s very possible that “Mandarin” is Robert Downey Jr. in an alternate timeline where he didn’t get straightened out and WOULD pretend to be an international terrorist for drugs and money. I haven’t listened to all of the spoiler discussion yet, so maybe it gets brought up…
    *END SPOILER*
  • Drew
    “We can’t stop here, this is bat country.”
  • Indianamcclain
    Hey Jay, did you ever find the digital look of Iron Man 3 distracting?
  • patrik
    YEEEEEEES, you go Frank!! I totally agree, the supersoldiers are so uninteresting and uninspired visually. Boring. Personally I didn’t like the spoiler very much either so I was quite disappointed with Iron Man 3.
  • Lori C
    Awesome ‘cast as always, though the bit about zoos got me all depressed.
  • @Indianamcclain: I didn’t have a problem with it. I thought it looked better than The Avengers, which at times looks like a TV show.
    @Lori C: For better or worse, depression is also a vibe. It wouldn’t be a vibecast without exploring some of the darker vibes. It’s just a matter of vibing it out.
  • Ed H
    Not one word about electric dog Gary Busey???
  • We will be recapping two episodes of Celebrity Apprentice next week.
  • there is nothing like that feeling of tuning in and hearing Reed’s voice (yay!!)…then hearing his first ramble. (OMFG!!)
  • Are still people making money from the iphone gaming Industry? ..My Game generates me approximately $0 per year. And the same goes for all the other people I know.. Everybody is counting pennies..
    ..it seems like the only way to make money out of games these days is by kickstarter..
    Maybe I should start one with the excuse to transfer my awesome game (Puzzle Flights) to Android..
  • Kasper
    Frank is saying all the wrong things in this review. Iron Man 3 is awesome!
  • Benjamin
    Whoever this F*cking idiot is that hasn’t watched the movie and can’t pronounce iron properly needs to *NOT* be on the podcast anymore. He was on a few weeks ago and annoyed the piss out of me and he’s even more annoying now. I’ve been listening for more than a year but if he’s back after this I’ll be dropping you guys. Seriously, review movies and ditch the idiot.
    I get he’s a friend of you guys, but he doesn’t add anything and listening to him is grating. Please don’t bring him back.
  • patrik
    The problem with the Ender’s Game as a franchise in terms of the studios point of view, there’s just no way they can make sequels of the rest of the books.. It just wouldn’t work.
    Oh and Gwyneth Paltrow is not anywhere near being the most beautiful woman in the world. You could pick ten women from every generation between 18 and 50 that are more attractive than her. She’s not ugly but it’s just unfathomable that she would be picked as the number 1, it’s a joke. Kate Beckinsale would be a more apt choice. There’s my piece of manly sexism of the day.
  • bard
    Benjamin,
    Reed/Gerry has been a part of the podcast for years and I think the majority of people love him and the character he has created. He’s rarely on anymore, so you would probably regret dropping the show completely due to the ~5 episodes he’s on a year.
  • Reed is definitely an acquired taste, but he’s an integral part of what makes Film Junk a great podcast. And I would argue that what most of the listeners of love about this show is the personalities and quirks(/borderline personality disorders) of its hosts. I would definitely save your money on the Star Trek premium if you haven’t yet warmed up to Reed, Benjamin. It is going to be a thing of beauty.
    Oh, I also have a quick manifesto question for Jay and Frank: do I have to put my Bourne and Matrix box sets under ‘U’ for ‘Ultimate?’ Or can I put them under ‘B’ and ‘M.’
  • kyri
    It worths to mention that the dialog that Reed so beautifully Performed in the show is actually portrayed very differently in the finished film..
    Even Quentin Tarantino doesn’t stay 100% loyal to his script So what is the point on reading a script BEFORE you watched a film..
    @Benjie. mate relax. Reed is on the show for your comedic enjoyment mate,
    watch this:
    https://vimeo.com/18159785
    You should go back and listen to the Avatar or the Children of Men podcasts.. Or even better Look for the Cantankerous Podcasts! along with Jays’ amazing Cooking with Jerry videos.
    Reed is like a catalyst that creates hilarious and interesting situations..
  • Sam
    Speaking of Manifesto questions. When can we expect the next installment? Sent a couple questions/comments that I’m hoping to see addressed.
    Also, Reed is awesome entertainment. I’ve also been listening for just over a year and at first, I also borderline hated the guy, I believe the first thing I listened to of him was when I went back through the premiums months ago and heard the Christmas special.
    Since then though, I’ve gone back and listened all the way from episode 200 and grew to love Reed despite his glaring flaws.
  • ZOO
    Clicks Pause Oh my god Reed is killing it! X-rated Blythe Danner dreams? Only on filmjunk… Having listened to the show since 2009, (District 9 being the first) I can say that Reed is definitely an acquired taste, but he’s an important part of what makes the filmjunk universe so unique (I include Greg in here as well, even though he may not be a regular anymore, looking forward to his ‘guest star’ appearance in the not too distant future) Great to have Nuno back as well.
  • Matt
    Almost felt like a cantankerous episodes in parts this week. I am heavy vibing on the vibecast concept.
  • Josef
    Usually not the biggest Reed fan, but thought he was in top form. His script reading of Django Unchained was hilarious.
  • ZOO
    “Reed’s script reading” *dies* Very cantankery vibes here..
  • Kasper
    Reed totally fucked Jay in the ass with that script reading. Both Nuno and Reed did great on the podcast – Reed not watching the movie turned out to be a good thing. His synopsis (before it was mentioned) made me think of Kids Say The Darndest Things – hilarious!
    Fantastic show overall, even if Frank is completely off base and his dislikes were puzzling.
  • Essie
    Really fun episode, thanks guys!
    Reed, I thought you were hilarious and I always get excited when you’re on the show.
    Can’t wait for the hot docs recap!
  • Great show guys! Can’t wait for the regular/premium podcast for Star Trek with Reed, should be a good.
  • dick richardson
    i just fucked a chick without a condom who has five kids already. now i’m sitting here, waiting for her to leave, so i can finally listen to the podcast. she’s asleep in my bed. i’m in the living-room. all out of cigarettes. this sucks. really. damn!
    (this is not me being mysoginistic, btw. – seriously. just desperate. i am the victim here! kind of.)
  • dick richardson
    … let me just add something serious to that post: there can’t be enough of Reed/Gerry on the podcast. I honestly would love to hear another cantankerous episode, to catch up with what he’s doing.
  • Tum Tum Tyranus
    Awesome episode, and I haven’t even listened to the IM3 discussion, which I’m saving for after I’ve seen the film.
    Favorite moments:
    – Reed marking out when Nuno says he likes Wonderfalls. Then Jay laughing at Reed.
    – Reed likes Jeepers Creepers II but is creeped out by Victor Salva. Is concerned for the 20 year old adults sun tanning on top of the bus. “pal-y, pal-y”
    – Blythe Danner dream
    “I don’t talk and tell”
    “At least you’re respectful to the women you fuck in your dreams”
    – Nuno’s ad-libbed ADR for a ‘talking animal’ comedy
    – Frank picks Gwyneth Paltrow over Rebecca Hall. Jay loses his shit. Frank rubs it in even more(you can hear his smirk).
    – Zoo talk. Animal rant. Leading to Jay asking Frank if he’s ever masturbated to animals.
    – Butterfly Effect bashing. Reed’s only seen Butterfly Effect 2. Later refers to it as Butterfly Collector 2.
    – Reed watches another show Jay has never heard of, Huff. Bought it for Star Trek alum, Anton Yelchin.
    – “They were sitting out in the tongue area”
    – Frank’s disgust of mixing real animals with CG animals
    – Django script read
  • Batman
    Goddamn Reed was amazing this episode. ALL HAIL REED!
  • PlanBFromOuterSpace
    There’s actually a THIRD “Butterfly Effect”, if you can believe it, and I think it was released as one of those After Dark Horrorfest movies. I’m not sure what (if anything) it has to do with any of the other films, but I’m almost certain that it was called something else entirely before the marketing department stepped in and said “Yeah, people are really going to dig it, but they’ll dig it even MORE if we slap ‘Butterfly Effect’ on the box”.
  • anton
    enders game is a great book(especially first. and pearhaps second, after that it goes downhill). but before even knowing that author was anti-gay or anything, i thought the book had some gay undercurrents in it.
  • @Tum Tum Tyranus: Thx for providing your favourite moments. Showing how vain I am, I actually laughed while reading the moments.
    @Benjamin: Thx for your eloquent post. I’m already scheduled for the Star Trek podcast, but I don’t think I’ll be appearing much after that, so please continue listening.
  • Henrik
    Reed I laughed my ass off at this episode, I love you so much.
  • Nuno
    I too love Reed. It’s always great to hear him on the podcast and it was awesome to record with him and experience the insanity first-hand!
  • Nuno, I would blush, but I only blush when a woman catches me buying Star Trek action figures. (It’s too bad our post-discussion about animal extinction wasn’t recorded. If we ever do another Cantankerous, we’ll have to invite you to participate.)
  • James
    Ugh Iron Man 3 was such a fucking bore. Jay has lost it.
  • @Reed: You mean, *when* you do another Cantankerous.
  • Sly
    Jay 4/4
    Nuno 3/4
    Reed 2.5/4
    Frank 2/4
    FJ 3/4
  • Evan
    I don’t know, every time I listen to these guys I get annoyed. They don’t seem to care about what they are talking about. For film news podcast, they don’t seem to have a grip on what’s actually going on.
    Take the Fantastic Four discussion. They announced that Michael B. Jordan was a front runner for the cast but no one bothered to…I don’t know…do a quick Google search to find out who Michael B. Jordan was and what role he was up to. Hell, Reed thought that Jessica Alba was coming back!!!
  • Jay C.
    @Evan I’m sorry our discussion came across that way. Rest assured that we are all absolutely thrilled by the news of Michael B. Jordan potentially playing the role of somebody in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie. I would’ve loved to have discussed it in more detail but Frank was tapping his watch the whole time because he had to take a massive dump due to an overload of buffalo chicken pizza he’d scarfed down before the show.
    Here’s the recipe:
    Ingredients
    3/4 pound chicken breast cutlets
    Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling
    2 teaspoons grill seasoning, (recommended: McCormick Montreal Seasoning) eyeball it
    1 pizza dough, store bought or from your favorite pizzeria
    Cornmeal or flour, to handle dough
    2 tablespoons butter
    1 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, eyeball it
    2 to 3 tablespoons hot sauce, medium to spicy heat
    1/2 cup tomato sauce
    1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese, a few generous handfuls
    1/2 cup blue cheese crumbles
    3 scallions, thinly sliced
    Thanks for the feedback!
  • Sam
    Sounds delicious Jay. Thanks a bunch!
    Honestly though, it’s not their job to be pretend to be excited about news that frankly isn’t exciting. It’s also not their job to know who the lesser of the three main guys from Chronicle is. If you’re curious who it is, visit the google.com and type IMDb and search for it yourself, I’d say. They simply put the news out there.
    Do they sound bored during the news segment? Yes, but that’s kind of how Jay normally is but it’s part of his shtick and I enjoy it.
  • Arnold Schizopolis
    I dug the Outro music. Who’s the artist and track? Thanks.
  • Jay C.
    Outro music is Tonight, We Fall by ADULT.
  • projectgenesis
    I always kinda liked the first Jeepers Creepers, but never felt the need to watch the sequel. But hell, If Reed can sit through the entirety of it – and give it a positive review. I’m gonna have to check it out.
  • brooklyn pete
    just wondering if reed likes watching star trek the animated series naked and if he has it on vhs
  • @brooklyn pete: No, I would never watch Star Trek The Animated Series naked, and I have it on VHS, laserdisc, and DVD.
  • Owozifa
    The first episode of Star Trek The Animated Series used to scare me so much as a child that I hid the VHS tape in our basement.
    True story.
  • Jasper
    Boom. Jay put all the FJ critics down with this one! Ever since the Gasman had dissolved, I noticed how hard you guys tried to find the VIBE. And there it is. You make it sound easy again! God bless the junk, Jasper
  • I love reading new listeners’ reactions to hearing Reed on the podcast for the first time. It always seems to be an “either he goes or I go” reaction. Priceless. Benjamin seems to be another satisfied customer.
    It must warm your heart, eh Reed?
  • @Movie Vigilante: I have the same effect on members of my family.
