Ender’s Game Trailer

endersgame

Attention sci-fi nerds: the first trailer for Ender’s Game is here! While I’m sure it’s going to spark a renewed debate over Orson Scott Card’s anti-gay politics, the real question here is whether or not the movie will actually be worth seeing in the first place. And unfortunately, I suspect that if you haven’t read the book, this trailer probably won’t do much to get you excited about it. For the most part, it looks like a pretty generic sci-fi flick and may leave some wondering why the novel has so many fans.

The story finds humanity training kids from a very young age to be soldiers in a brutal war against a race of invading aliens known as Buggers. The problem is that the book is mostly about the internal struggle of the main character, Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), and not so much about huge action sequences. The space battle and training sequences look like they could have some unique visuals, but the acting is what I’m most worried about. Harrison Ford’s voiceover in particular sounds absolutely atrocious. Ender’s Game hits theatres on Nov. 1st; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

What the actual fuck.. Spoiling much? Whoever made that trailer might want to learn to keep some things in the dark. I guess it might be fine if you haven’t read the book but for me they reveal too much that I didn’t want to see until I actually watch the movie.

The battle room will be the key though and it looks pretty cool from what I can tell.

A homophobe who percieves gay people as paedophiles writes a book where children fight ‘buggers’. Seriously?

I grew up in Northern Ireland amongst bigotry, hatred, prejudice and intolerance and consequently can’t abide such shitty behaviour.

I literally cannot understand such levels of seeming hatred towards a group of human beings who have no control over who they are attracted to, by Scott Card.

I accept that there are paedophiles in the gay community but I imagine they are in exactly the same proportion / percentage of the gay population as the proportion / percentage of paedophiles in the heterosexual population. i.e. people are people whether they are gay, straight, Chinese, Irish etc.

I’d like to see a sci fi film, or any film, that explains such levels of hatred.

I am not supporting Orson Scott Card by watching his trailers.

    just kidding…

I enjoyed the book when I read it in junior high. I think Ender’s Game is a book that inroduced a lot of people to sci-fi when they were young. Movie looks pretty cool.

  • Whoa, they were definitely trying to out-lens flare JJ Abrams in this trailer. It looks kinda ugly, like a movie shot in 3d playing in 2d. Whatevs I think it looks cool.

Harrison is doing his best/worst Morgan Freeman…

Meh…uninspiring trailer trying to be inspiring…hope additional tralers looks and sounds better than this.

As I recall, Enders Game itself doesn’t say anything about homosexuality one way or the other. I think it is actually kind of offensive that people will not see a movie from a book by a guy beecause of political beliefs…… I am one of the very few conservative (mostly) sci-fi fans, and I have NEVER not read a book or seen a movie because I disagree with someone on something policitally, because lets get real, there isn’t a lot of sci-fi NOT done by crazy libs.

My favourite author is Arthur C. Clarke, and politicaly I don’t think I agree with him on one thing at all, that being said, I am certainly not going to stop reading his work because I disagree with him. I think this anti-Carde crap I have been hearing for the last few months is more offensive than his views on homosexuality.

    Nick P.,

The issue isn’t that he harbors beliefs contrary to most of the internet community. It’s that he actively uses his fortune to fund homophobic organizations and campaign against marriage equality.

By protesting a film to which he’s owed royalties, would-be movie goers can make a political impact.

    Waxwrath,

Tomatoes-tomaatoes, again Arthur C. Clarkes forture went to numerous absurd causes I disagree with, I still buy his work.

Kingsley looks ridiculous. Wikipedia spoiled the plot of the short story for me, but it sounds cool. The writer’s position on same sex marriage doesn’t bother me, but his hateful words with which he has voiced them do.

  • Owozifa

Discrimination is not a political position.

  • Bas

I didn’t say ‘political position’, I said ‘position’. I meant that he is entitled to his own view on the matter. I don’t agree with him, but he can think whatever he likes.

But pushing your beliefs on others, spouting hate and trying to take away or block basic rights for other people is a different matter.

  • Owozifa

    @Bas
I wasn’t replying to your post, just stating a clarification. I don’t think talking in terms of conservative vs. liberal is productive.

You’re right, though. We are all entitled to our own view and exercise that right every day. In a world where rights are secured people can still think whatever they want about anybody’s marriage. I’m sure many of us have already exercised the right with Kim Kardashian.
