Hey guys, just wanted to say you’ve handled the departure of Greg really well. I think the show has been excellent. Much more focused and insightful while still maintaining a great sense of humor and unpretentiousness. I haven’t been keeping up with the comments section so I wasn’t sure how everyone was feeling about the new episodes, but just thought I’d put it out there that at least one fan is very satisfied. Keep it up and thanks for the show! ^_^

  • kent88

Sean should definitely watch Bad Boys II. It’s the quintessential Michael Bay movie.

  • Thanks Essie!

kent: I was actually wanting to watch it for this week’s show but it’s too damn long! Either way, I hope to get to it soon… that and Pearl Harbor, which I’ve also never seen.

  • On the subject of Kickstarter, I had the pleasure of seeing a screening of Upstream Color with a Q&A by Shane Carruth afterward. When asked about using Kickstarter to fund Topiary, he said he was reluctant to do so because he felt it was taking advantage of people who want to see your work, and that the only way he would consider it is a sort of pre-order scenario, where you pay for a blu-ray or digital copy in advance. I personally think this is the most honest way to do this. Otherwise you’re just holding your property hostage.

Oh, and regarding Michael Bay, there’s a pretty good supercut of all these shots he ripped from David Fincher: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tHDMJBttrc

  • devolutionary

Pearl Harbor, in my eyes, is definitely way more of a chore to get through than Bad Boys II. As a summer fluff piece masquerading as a historical war drama, Pearl Harbor is probably serviceable, but I’ll likely never have the urge to watch it again.

  • Sam

Come on Sean! “Shallow Hilda” was the best you could do?

It was set-up on a tee for you: “Shallow Gal”!

  • Haha awesome… you win. I was thinking too inside the box.

  • Shallow Val??

  • Shallow Halle.

    Ya dummies.

  • Also good.

  • Sarah

Remember when this podcast was good?

  • Glad to hear that you’re still listening Sarah. We appreciate your support.

  • Jay C.

Thanks Essie! We put a lot of work into these shows and it’s great to hear your enjoying everything.

@Steve: I agree. I think for these bigger projects Kickstarter should be treated as an opportunity to preorder.

  • Sarah

    my last episode.

  • I know you’re a long time listener rj, so I’m sorry to hear that. But you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do.

  • Indianamcclain

Your not alone Frank, I only like ketchup on my hot dog too.

  • Thanks for listening Sarah/RJ Delight.

If you haven’t already, you should check out the Cinecast at Row Three and The Director’s Club Podcast for alternate podcast options.

  • Tum Tum Tyranus

If anything, Idiocracy is loved(overrated), based purely on the opening dumbing down sequence which people gush over. Unfortunately they tend to forget that the rest of the movie is kind of a let down.

Gossip Girl guy singing the hip hop birthday song in the background during that one scene in Easy A kills.

  • Kasper

Looking forward to an entire bonus episode focused on Frank trying different kinds of hotdogs. Will it be premium, or will it just be premium dining?

  • Thanks for answering my question. Ill try and come with better questions next time. You guys have a really great podcast. Your the only non horror podcast I listening too.

  • No prob, and thanks for the kind words.

  • Bryan

Film Junk is the absence of Film Junk.
I’ve been listening for 4.2 years nonprofessionally,
so I’m just happy I chose Film Junk.
    But I don’t choose Film Junk…
the Spirit of the Film Junk chooses me.

And I know that the performances and the joys
of Sean, Jay, and Franks’ emotions,
which they will give to this little podcast,
    live 5,000 miles past heaven.
    And that’s a beautiful place to live…

Ketchup and shredded cheese are the only things I’ll ever put on a hot dog.

  • Goon

RJDelight is a Sarah? I thought it was a he… Rico Something.

  • Eamon

Great show this week, and more random than usual. I liked the numerous asides.

I’m with you Sean. I could not think of a woman’s name ending in ‘al’ for quite a while. Mal?

For those of you still recovering from the host change, I’d recommend ep. 323. I watched Green Lantern for the first time and wanted to revisit the review, but this show includes Greg post a little hiatus because of girlfrind woes but ends his story with her coming back to the states. Apparently, ‘his cock’ is pretty great. Then Jay followed up with his story about getting the wire shoved up his cock hole.

Great show. I do think Green Lantern was fine entertainment at home with low expectations. Keep it up!

  • Jay C.

@Goon: No, it seems as though RJ Delight is a she. Unless of course he is in fact a he and was simply posting disparaging comments about our show under different names. Who would waste their time doing that though?

  • Jay C.

For me, a dog ain’t a dog without a healthy dollop of corn relish.

  • Sam

Mustard is all a dog needs. Tempted to stop by at Costco after work today.

  • Tum Tum Tyranus

FlashingThemTDs, I really like your name. Especially when Sean says it.

  • I personally prefer brats to dogs, is anyone with me on this? Neon green relish, onions, ketchup and mustard, maybe some green peppers in there…

I think I might stop by 7-Eleven in a bit.

  • Steve,

Any man with testicles is with you on this.

  • Jsin

The outro song drove me nuts trying to think of the original. Eels- Novocaine for the soul. Not easy to google either

  • I feeling is mutual Tum Tum.

  • Michael Bay knows exactly what he is doing listen to this:

(starts at 13:25, only about two minutes long)

It’s Jason Reitman’s sister Catherine telling a story about Jason’s interaction with Michael Bay.

  • patrik

Frank you pussy, you have to try mustard and dried onion on your hotdogs. Ketchup, mustard, dried onion and mashed potatoes on top. That’s the pefect hotdog. If you enjoy 2-3 of these you’ll be full as well.

  • patrik

Looking forward to the merger on The Apprentice. A shame that Brande was fired though, she was my favorite. Now I don’t care who win.

  • picklepuss

This show isn’t fun to listen to anymore. First you get rid of all the funny segment songs like the Junkmail theme, then you get rid of Greg, and now Jay barely does any funny voices or impressions. This show stinks

  • Gerry

    @Sean.

Embarrasing a long term contributor to filmjunk, who supported the show from the earliest podcasts, who is clearly unhappy about your recent decision re Greg and was making a point about it, isn’t very nice.

  • Steve

Frank, the In the Company of Men co-star is Matt Malloy. He’s not the guy who played Howard Marks in Minority Report – that is Arye Gross (House II, The Experts, A Midnight Clear).

  • @37: I always found the music themes tiresome. I was glad when they left. Those got taken out after that huge poll on the site, so I’m assuming it was decided based on feedback from that. Personally I still find the show as much fun as it’s always been.

  • Jay C.

For anyone interested, here’s the trailer to the amazing ‘The Expedition to the End of the World’, which I mentioned during our short Hot Docs discussion:

  • Greg

Someone sent me a message on twitter saying that I needed to come read the comments section of this podcast.

Everyone needs to remember that I made many of the shows that I was on terrible.

Maybe we should post a video of me hugging it out with the Film Junk hosts.

Don’t quit listening to the show. These guys know their shit. Just play a Film Junk pod and a Ball Junk pod at the same time. It’ll be just like the old days.

  • Steve

I think the King of Comedy has to give “Repo Man” a poke and weigh in. It is a cult-favorite of mine and is hard to classify in any genre. But I think it is most fun when enjoyed as a comedy more than anything else.

  • I’m enjoying the shows as much as ever…thanks again for another installment. I gave BallJunk a go, very good. If there’s the odd “Soccer” wrap up I’ll be a regular.

  • dirrrtyfrank

@Steve You’re completely right. Preeeeeetttttty embarrassed. I have convinced myself that Spielberg modeled Howard Marks after Howard in ITCOM and cast a look alike. It’s the only way I’ll sleep tonight.

  • Sly

After listening to FJ for many years I sense some kind of improvement. The regular cast as of now is PERFECT. Thanks for great entertainment.

  • Goon

“Embarrasing a long term contributor to filmjunk, who supported the show from the earliest podcasts, who is clearly unhappy about your recent decision re Greg and was making a point about it, isn’t very nice.”

Posting disparaging remarks under fake names to try and rally w group walkout (a group walkout of yourself apparently), isn’t very nice. You get what you give. Pretty lame, RJ.

  • Re: Braff. I was a contributor and here is an excerpt from the latest email update regarding where the financing is coming from:

“Wish I Was Here” is a pretty ambitious indie film. It is larger in scale and scope than “Garden State”. It’s not a 2 million dollar movie. The budget will be comprised of 3 elements:

The money raised here on Kickstarter. (That’s you. You rule. I love you.)
My own money. (Don’t worry. A LOT! An ass-ton.)
Pre-selling select foreign distribution rights to a few countries.
The budget for the whole project will ultimately fall somewhere between 4 and 6 million dollars. I know that sounds like a lot of money. (And it is.) But just for some comparison, the studio version of this film would likely fall around 25 million.

    Things that are pricey:

    Fantasy sequences with special effects.
A computer generated flying droid. (We could cut him. But I love him.)
    Shooting at Comic-Con.
Shooting with two children (5 and 12). *They are only allowed to work a limited number of hours a day. (Lazy!)
An epic soundtrack. (We definitely need some Thom Yorke…)
Shooting in Los Angeles. (Several states and Canada offer tax breaks to bring production to them. That’s all fine and dandy, but as this film takes place in LA, I’m really campaigning to keep the work here.)
Shooting on film instead of video. (OK, I’ll likely give this up, but it would be awesome.)
Also, 2 million raised on Kickstarter isn’t really 2 million. There are fees to Kickstarter and Amazon, as well as the fulfillment costs of getting you all the delicious goodies we have promised you. (Not to mention how many kitten taints I have to sample to find just the right one for our shirts.)

  • I’ve also never understood the idea that people think they’re entitled to a “reward” or some other piece of enticement that is equal to the amount of money they put into the project. If you donate $20 to a film and in return you get $20 worth of stuff, then what’s the point? Then you didn’t contribute anything to the film, you simply bought something. It’s a weird notion and further proof people don’t really understand Kickstarter.

  • Lucas3D

Loved the marbles talk guys, It was like watching a Malick film and remembering some long forgotten truths. Steelies were the bomb when I was a nipper, because of their weight I never thought that they were just ball bearings…
