Tom Hiddleston in Talks for The Crow Reboot

After going through a lawsuit with The Weinstein Company and a handful of different creative teams, Relativity Media is apparently still pushing forward with their planned reboot of The Crow although I can’t imagine why. Last we heard, The Weinstein Company had settled and F. Javier GutiĆ©rrez (Before The Fall) had been hired to direct, but that was last January and there haven’t been any updates on the project since then. Bradley Cooper was attached to star at one point, but he eventually dropped out due to a “scheduling conflict.” James McAvoy was recently rumoured to replace him but never officially signed on. Now it appears that they’re finally close to landing a new lead and if it works out, it could definitely get comic book fans back on board with this remake. Tom Hiddleston, best known as Thor’s arch-enemy and half-brother Loki, is reportedly in talks to play the new Eric Draven.
According to The Wrap, Tom Hiddleston is in “early discussions” to lead The Crow reboot. He has already met with The Crow producers and even sent a make-up test for the role that he did on his own. The next step will be for him to undergo a proper make-up test and then sign on the dotted line. It’s unclear if they are still planning on using something similar to the leaked character designs that were created back when Bradley Cooper was attached, but now that it has been openly ridiculed on the internet, it seems unlikely.
The latest draft of the script was apparently written by Cliff Dorfman, who co-wrote Warrior and previously worked as a staff writer on HBO’s Entourage. Coming up with a new take on The Crow that connects with today’s audience does not seem like an easy task. Fortunately for them, casting Hiddleston could be a step in the right direction as he has built up plenty of goodwill with moviegoers thanks to the success of The Avengers. What do you think, can he carry a movie like this on his own? Would the casting of Tom Hiddleston be enough to get you interested in a reboot of The Crow?
