Zoe Saldana in Talks for Guardians of the Galaxy

Although there hasn’t been any official confirmation since it was first hinted at last week, word on the street is that Marvel is close to landing another cast member for James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Thus far, Chris Pratt has signed on to play Star-Lord, the group’s half-human/half-alien leader, and Dave Bautista has been cast as Drax the Destroyer. Now the team is likely to be getting its first female member as Zoe Saldana is said to be circling the role of Gamora. The character is a green-skinned humanoid who also happens to be the adopted daughter of Thanos (ie. the big purple guy who appeared during the credits of The Avengers).
According to THR, Zoe Saldana is in negotiations for the female lead in Guardians of the Galaxy. Gamora is an assassin with superhuman strength, agility and an accelerated healing factor. She is also “the last of a species that was exterminated by a race known as the Badoon.” Still no word on who will play Groot or Rocket Raccoon.
The casting of Saldana would be a huge win for Marvel considering that she has two other major sci-fi franchises under her belt with Avatar and Star Trek. The only question is whether or not they will be willing to meet her asking price. Some of her other recent movies include Colombiana and The Words and later this year she will co-star in Scott Cooper’s Out of the Furnace with Christian Bale. Do you think Zoe Saldana is a good choice for Gamora?
