New Photo of Henry Cavill and Amy Adams in Man of Steel

With all the major changes that Zack Snyder seems to be making to the Superman canon in Man of Steel (ie. Jimmy Olsen is a woman, Perry White is a black man), it’s a shock that some comic book fans aren’t already planning on boycotting the movie. And if those other tweaks weren’t outrageous enough, there’s also the little issue of Lois Lane being played by a redhead! Seriously though, I think most of us would agree that choosing the right person for the role is more important than their hair colour and Amy Adams does seem to fit the bill. Warner Brothers have released a new photo of Henry Cavill and Amy Adams in character this week (it also appears on the cover of Total Film) and it allows us to soak in the reality of a non-brunette Lois. Do you think you can accept this reality? Check out a larger version of the image after the jump.

Please please please discuss this picture with Jay on the next podcast! I’ll state the obvious and say that the blue is too dark, the red is too burgundy, where are his red pants and where is his curl, yadayadayada…. :)

I think Lois Lane has been a redhead in the past, like on the old live action Superman TV series with George Reeves. She’s had both black and brown hair in the comics more recently, so I think it’s ok as long as they don’t make her platinum blonde or something.

Noel Neill’s hair was red in the the 1950’s Superman tv show, so I don’t see what the big deal is…as for
Perry White being played by a black actor….Billy Dee Williams played Harvey Dent in Tim Burton’s Batman, and that movie was a blockbuster hit. When it comes to Superman’s suit being darker…..Batman’s suit was black in all of the movies….it was usually grey and blue in the cartoons and comics; but I don’t recall to many people bitching about that change. Having a female play a “Jimmy Olsen” character… it’s no different to me than watching a female play the role of Mercutio in Romeo & Juliet. Those type of characters could be played by any sex. To me this is a slightly fresh new spin on Superman….the same as Tim Burton did with Batman. Look at Selina Kyle in TDKR… I’ve always known her to be a blond, but no… they made her a brunette…damn near the very opposite….not to mention Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s character (Blake) turning out to be called Robin, in the end. But that movie was pretty awesome in my book. It feels like Snyder seems to get picked on more than any other directors out there.
