James Wan’s The Conjuring Trailer

With horror movies arguably continuing to deliver the most bang for a studio’s buck, James Wan has become a very valuable man in Hollywood. We all know that he launched one of the most successful horror franchises in recent years with Saw, but his last film Insidious was another surprise hit that has helped usher in a new wave of haunted house movies. Now he has two more horror flicks coming out this summer: Insidious: Chapter 2 and The Conjuring. While the former seems like it will have a bigger built-in audience, the latter was given a juicy July release date thanks to extremely positive test screenings.

The Conjuring is based on a true story that was investigated by Ed and Lorraine Warren, the same paranormal investigators who tackled The Amityville Horror. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson play The Warrens but we do not see them at all in this trailer. Instead it very wisely immerses us in long stretches of suspense with Lili Taylor playing the mother of a family that just moved into a secluded farmhouse. Sure, it’s somewhat familiar territory, but at this point it’s clear that Wan knows how to maximize the tension and terror. The Conjuring hits theatres on July 19th; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

There are a many horror directors who are a lot worse, so i’m kinda looking forward to that one. Apart from Death Sentence I found everyone of his movies watchable. When it comes to horror for this year though, i’m mostly looking forward to Alexandre Aja’s next movie “Horns”.
