Monday Morning Box Office Report: Identity Thief Back on Top

The last weekend in February was a fairly uneventful one as neither of the two new releases were able to get a firm foothold at the box office. The door was open for Seth Gordon’s Identity Thief to sneak back to the top after both Snitch and Dark Skies underperformed and A Good Day to Die Hard dropped like a rock. Identity Thief is the only real success story so far this year and is expected to hit $100 million by the end of the week. Snitch did at least manage second place with a $13 million debut followed by Escape from Planet Earth and Safe Haven. A Good Day to Die Hard fell from first to fifth, a 60% drop likely due to poor word of mouth. As for Scott Stewart’s Dark Skies, it was largely swept under the rug by The Weinstein Company and opened in sixth place with just $8.85 million.
