Han Solo and Boba Fett Movies Also in Development

Following up on yesterday’s confirmation that Disney is working on a number of Star Wars spin-off movies in addition to the new trilogy, today we have a fairly reliable update on what two of those spin-offs might be. Although it was initially rumoured that Yoda would be the first character to get his own solo movie, it appears that there are at least two others under consideration right now and they are definitely fan favourites. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that both Han Solo and Boba Fett will be getting their own prequels / origin stories. Being that it is still very early, these plans could easily change, but I think we can all agree that both of these ideas seem like no brainers. Read on for more details.

Word on the street is that the Han Solo movie would be a “young Han Solo” story that takes place between Episode III and IV, explaining how the smuggler got his start. This would obviously involve someone other than Harrison Ford taking on the lead role, and it would be a huge opportunity for a young up and coming actor. As for the Boba Fett movie, it will be set sometime during the timeline of the original trilogy. It would not be so much an origin story but rather a one-off “bounty hunter adventure” that occurs in between key events from the other films.

Disney and Lucasfilm had no official comment on the story, but it’s becoming pretty clear that Star Wars is going to essentially take over all of Hollywood for at least the next decade as many different writers, directors and actors are brought in to flesh out all of these different stories. For better or worse, the mystery behind many beloved characters will potentially be revealed and the Star Wars cinematic universe is about to become a very crowded place indeed. Is this good news or should fans be wary of how quickly this is ramping up?

This is bit too much imo, although a Boba Fett film could be cool. And the guy who will play Han Solo will be under immense pressure.

Even though Star Wars comics, games, books, toys etc have already been milked to death, the release of the films should remain a special event imo. Fearing these will be similar to (most of) the Marvel standalone superhero movies, in other words poor or just average.

  • Bob

Disney, Ever hear of too much of a good thing? I’m guessing no as long as that good thing is piles of cash.

  • Alicia Stella

Sooo as fans we go from Lucas saying there will be no more Star Wars films to Disney now making a billion of them at once. If it were me, I’d play the long game and spread this stuff out.

I’m already sick of the new Star Wars movies.

  • I’ll watch it… but I won’t like it!!

  • Brendan

Somewhere right now, Sean Patrick Flanery heard about a young Han Silo movie and is calling his agent.

  • MrHorse

some people just don’t want to grow up.

you are men (80% of us here.. something like that), watch some porn. forget about your star wars, go out, get laid. at least watch some grown up movies..
bobby fat, hell, even hans – what is so important about these characters? think; if your answer is: “they are/look cool”, then i’m right.

you don’t owe anything to lucas or disney. do you?
don’t tell me they are a part of us. memories are a part of us.. but they’re in the right place, you beloved star wars isn’t: you’ll probably take it personally and hate me even. i bet

a cheap & simplistic image about a stupid future, created from the medieval past. so inspiring.

  • Gregg

I guess I agree with everyone else, but this is too much, too soon.

  • PlanBFromOuterSpace

MrHorse, you sound the least grown up of us all.

Bob, I welcome a variety of different Star Wars projects, because the last three films that we got were NOT ENOUGH of a good thing. I’m more interested in seeing who the creative teams will be.

  • PlanBFromOuterSpace

I just re-read that, and I guess what I should have made clearer was that there wasn’t enough good in the last three films, not that three films wasn’t enough, like they were SO jam-packed with goodness that it couldn’t be contained or something. Certainly not the case…

I actually like the idea of the Seven Jedi better than spin-offs of established characters. There is a lot to explore in that universe, they can create some new stories and brands.

  • Ji-a

Think I’m more excited for the Boba Fett film than Star Wars VII (or Han Solo).

MrHorse, you sound the least grown up of us all.

    oh rly. say why.

for that alone you deserved to be ignored btw.

  • Derek McFarland

I hope the Bobba Fett spin off will take place during
Shadows of the Empire (but from his point of view) When he was trying to transport Han (while encased in carbonite) to Jabba the Hutt, with all those Bounty Hunters on his tail; trying to Jack him for the bounty.

As for a Han Solo spin off/origin story, the only actor I could picture filling Harrison Fords shoes, & pulling off a young Han Solo would be, Max Thieriot. He played a better (younger) David Rice in the movie Jumper, than
Hayden Christensen, and in a way…. kinda resembles Ford a bit; in my opinion. He seems the right age and height for the part as well. I would definitely prefer these 2 standalone stories, over a Yoda film. That would just remind me too much of episode I-III.
Star Wars doesn’t need to go that far back at the moment….The Already seen prequels have put a bad taste in a lot of Star Wars fans mouths. Stories that take place around episodes IV-VI (When Star Wars was awesome) is what is needed.

  • Bas

@Derek McFarland: Cool idea for Boba, kinda like a Star Wars version of Weekend at Bernie’s!

As for the whole ‘character specific one-offs’ idea, I fear they’ll repeat the old mistake of connecting previously unconnected characters/places instead of expanding the universe with new characters/places.

  • Derek McFarland

    @Bas….

“Star Wars version of Weekend At Bernies”…..
    LOL….

  • MrHorse, now it just sounds like you’re trolling. I mean “oh rly”? Come on.

“some people just don’t want to grow up.

you are men (80% of us here.. something like that), watch some porn. forget about your star wars, go out, get laid.”
    —-

So, which is it? Watch porn like a grown up, or go out and get laid? You realize that those are two completely different things, right? And then you say…

” at least watch some grown up movies..
bobby fat, hell, even hans – what is so important about these characters? think; if your answer is: “they are/look cool”, then i’m right.”

What does what you watch have to do with being a grown up? What do YOU watch? Besides porn, of course, because you made that pretty clear. If you devote just a little time of your day or week to discuss things like this that interest you, does that make you any less of an adult? Some of my income actually does come from working in the film and television industry, so does that earn someone a pass? Are you into watching or playing sports? If so, what’s so important about that? If it doesn’t concern your livelihood, is it any less of a waste of time than watching or discussing the Star Wars movies?

Again, I really can’t tell if you’re for real or if you’re just trolling us, because some of your appearances in other comments sections also read like something that would be written on the wall in crayon.

  • I can’t be the only one that thinks an Ewoks movie will be one of the stand-alone projects. Disney and Ewoks were made for each other.

  • FDB

    Ewoks don’t speak the English.

I’m not surprised that all the news that has come along has been pretty boring, seeing as safe-bet-Disney is making them. Just make Rocketeer 2 already for chrissake.

  • Derek McFarland

    @FDA & Movie Vigilante

    Ewoks had 2 standalone films,
(THE EWOKE ADVENTURE & EWOKS: BATTLE FOR ENDOR)
that came out in the mid 80’s, and they spoke fine English. http://youtu.be/ASiVgcna9UM

    Lando !!!! Lando !!!!! Lando !!!!!

That’s some pretty potent weed your smoking, Mr Horse…does your guy deliver?

  • MrHorse

horsey’s reply got blocked twice while responding to that long crap about trolling ..and he’s not in the “right” mood to talk to you sweeties

continue playing with your SW toys, like the good boys i know you are

  • Lori C

Think Disney will do the “Tron Legacy” thingy with a digitally youthful Harrison playing the part?

  • Derek McFarland

    @ Lori C
    ……..Ohhhh nooooo……
