Jobs Clip Starring Ashton Kutcher

When it was first announced that Ashton Kutcher would be playing Steve Jobs in an upcoming biopic, there were a lot of pissed off Apple fans out there. But soon it became clear that he actually had more than a passing resemblance to a young Steve Jobs, and some started to believe that maybe he could actually pull it off. Well, over the weekend, Joshua Michael Stern’s Jobs (formerly titled jOBS) premiered at Sundance and the verdict seems to be in: he’s not terrible, but the movie itself is getting a lot of mixed reviews.

Fortunately, we’ll all get a chance to judge for ourselves in a couple of months when Open Road Films releases the movie in theatres in celebration of Apple’s 37th anniversary. To build on the hype, they’ve released a clip from the movie online featuring Kutcher as Jobs and Josh Gad as Steve Wozniak. Wozniak has publicly criticized the accuracy of this scene, but you can see that Kutcher is at least attempting to capture some of Jobs’ mannerisms on screen. Jobs hits theatres on April 19th; check out the clip after the jump and see what you think.

  • sorry, need a better actor than that to portray a man like Jobs. There is one note being played here, anxious, nothing more…

I can barely suspend my disbelief with what’s going on. Ashton Kutcher can’t evoke any personality except his own. They’re hitting all the awful exposition beats that Fincher’s The Social Network had, minus what made that movie awesome.

But, I might be interested if they go into detail about Jobs taking LSD.

My dick is made of carrots.

  • Gregg

Oof, Kutcher isn’t doing so well in this clip.

  • Yikes. This looks very bad indeed.

That’s a totally wrong portrayal of Woz also, at least visually. Doesn’t look anything like old pictures of him. Also, it’s making it seem like Jobs was the only guy with the ideas, and Woz is resisting him. Reality is probably somewhere in the middle. It seems like typical script-writing exposition where your hero has to push his ideas and someone else is used as the resistor, even if in reality he wasn’t.

  • Drew

Yeah… so when’s the Aaron Sorkin one coming out?

  • No Social Network. Dats for sure.

  • Spooksta

Oh dear. I was looking forward to this. Not now.
    Wooden or what..hope im wrong
