  • Captain Fram

Hell yeah, podcast! This workday just got more productive!

  • Anthony

No review of Movie 43? UNACCEPTABLE!!!

  • Steve

I’m in the middle of listening to this. Here’s one correction. Eomer and Eowyn are brother and sister, but they are not Theoden’s biological children. They are his niece and nephew, but he adopted them as his own when their parents died. The adoption wasn’t stated onscreen but Theoden did call them niece and nephew. Theodred was Theoden’s actual son. It was vaguely implied that Wormtongue finished him off in his bed after he was wounded in battle.

  • Essie

You did me proud in the Gondry vs. Jonze debate, Sean!

  • Tum Tum Tyranus

You guys fucked up. Hansel & Gretel was solid.

  • I love Greg’s childish giggling about “Girls.”

  • Jason_Miami

I’m glad you guys aren’t fanboying it up for JJ. I felt like I was the only person on earth who wasn’t jizzing all over that news. He is the safest possible choice and it is totally awkward to have the guy who has been turning Star Trek into Star Wars come over and do a proper Star Wars movie.

  • Brendan

About Star Wars, from what I’ve gleaned, I think Mark Hamill is likely to return, possibly Carrie Fisher too, but I doubt Harrison Ford shows up. He did an interview years ago where he was asked if he had any interest in playing Han Solo or Indiana Jones again (this was after Last Crusade & well before Crystal Skull) and he was clear that he didn’t want to play Han again, though he was enthusiastic about Indy. He also implied that the only reason he did the Star Wars films was so he could get better parts.

Of course, people can change their minds, and his recent film work has been less than stellar. So there’s probably a chance he would do it, but I feel the odds are low. I don’t think he’s interested in playing Han again, especially as what would likely be a bit part at the most.

  • Brendan

Thanks Sean, I hadn’t seen that story before! So, I stand corrected.

  • How long did you do the show before you felt like you had a good following? I started a show recently and I’m trying to gauge if I’m doing enough promotion. Albeit our show is on a much more niche subject (punk rock); I haven’t decided yet whether that will help us or hurt us.

  • It’s hard to say. Maybe a year? It was a bit different back then though, there weren’t a ton of podcasts around yet. It’s a lot harder to stand out now. You can’t just add your show on iTunes and expect that people will find it.

Niche is a good thing though, when we first started we did movies, music and video games all in one and it was just too much. I would say make sure you post about it on some related forums and blogs and plug it as much as possible.

  • Henrik

These guys knew they had a following when they tried their first ever live show, and I was the only dude listening :D

  • rjdelight

Hey I was there too ;). I miss those early days of TalkShoe. But regarding Ford coming back to Star Wars, I think he’ll be there. He’s already worked with Abrams so it seems likely to happen.

  • Steve

Woah, up on comment 3 I posted this in the wrong place. That’s what I get for having two Film Junk pages open at once. Should go in the LoTR premium. D’oh!

  • Kasper

Yeah, it’s a shame you guys never do live shows anymore. Is it because they’re too hard to get right and actually working, because you don’t want to be on camera or because all your awkward pauses aren’t getting cut out?

If it’s the camera thing you could just do it sound only. The past live shows were pretty awkward with the cameras on anyway.

  • Tum Tum Tyranus

Adaptation is great because of Kaufman. Jonze is just his cipher, hence why he stopped working with Gondry, who is too much of an auteur. Gondry > Jonze

  • Scott

Definitely get upset about Disney playing it safe on a $4billion dollar franchise with a legion of fans who do nothing but sit on the Internet and hate on every insignificant detail of it all day every day.

  • John Popper was in Blues Brothers 2000, though it was just a cameo. Too bad it’s a terrible movie.

  • rjdelight

    @ Steve

Haha, was wondering about that comment.

  • Indianamcclain

You guys have to watch the R rated/ Unrated version of Die Hard 4. That’s the true version of the film.

  • Owozifa

In regards to Titanic, if the “English hymn” was “Nearer My God To Thee” that is a detail that goes with the historical sinking of the ship.

  • Owozifa

Though perhaps not so much historical as just part of the common legend. There’s debate back and forth and no one knows for sure.

  • rjdelight

The unrated cut of Live Free or Die Hard is just as bad as the theatrical cut. A little more digital blood and I think a couple fucks are said from some meaningless side characters. His famous catchphrase is still muffled, which makes no sense to me.

  • kyri

I hated super8, hated startrek. I recall minority report 3 to be mediocre.
…The only thing That Abraham “made” and I actually enjoyed is Fringe.
only season 1 is x-files ..seasons 2-5 is something entirely different.

  • Indianamcclain

@Rj delight, we must’ve watched two different versions because the catchphrase wasn’t difficult to hear. But if you don’t like the movie at all, I’d agree that the R rated version probably won’t do much to change your mind.

  • Lior

I think Greg’s suggestion of having the actual stars fight in the new star Wars movie is brilliant.

I love where The Wild Things Are and think it’s Jonze’s best movie, and this is coming from a huge fan of Adaptation. When Kaufman directed his own script in Synecdoche New York the result was unfiltered Kaufmanism which was kind of difficult to bear.

According to the director’s commentary on Die Hard 4 the film was shot R-rated and only later changed to PG-13 by the studio. So judging by this, this is the version the director intended.
