Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey Under Consideration for Guardians of the Galaxy?

We’ve known ever since it was announced that Guardians of the Galaxy would probably be a pretty different kind of comic book movie and Marvel all but confirmed that fact when they hired James Gunn to direct it. Earlier this month we started hearing casting rumours for the lead role of Peter Quill (aka Starlord) that included names like Joel Edgerton, Jim Sturgess and Garrett Hedlund. While these are the typical leading men that tend to show up on every shortlist as of late, there are a couple of other more surprising names that recently surfaced as possibilities. Word on the street is that Marvel is currently seeking a couple of comedy superstars for an unspecified role in the film. Believe it or not, both Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey could soon end up joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to Latino Review, Marvel has been inquiring about the availability of both Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey for Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s not yet clear what role(s) they are being considered for, nor is it clear whether they would be competing for the same part. Keep in mind, this is still fairly early and there are no official negotiations under way as of yet.
The obvious answer is that they are being courted to voice Rocket Raccoon, a CG-animated character that would likely provide some comic relief. This makes a bit of sense because the idea of seeing someone like Adam Sandler on screen in a blockbuster comic book movie seems completely ridiculous. Then again, Jim Carrey is already starring in Kick-Ass 2, so maybe it’s not so far-fetched after all. What do you think, could either of these casting choices actually work or would they make you more likely to stay away from Guardians of the Galaxy?
