Happy Holidays from Your Friends at Film Junk!

I know this post is a few days late but I just wanted to wish all of our readers and listeners a happy and safe holiday season as we head into 2013. It’s been a busy year for Film Junk and we are very grateful that you have all joined us for another year of obsessing over these silly little things they call “motion pictures”. We are in the process of preparing our Best of 2012 lists, which will be unveiled on the next episode of the Film Junk Podcast along with the winners of this year’s Reader’s Choice Awards.

Things will continue to be a little slow around the website over the next few days, so unless any earth-shattering news happens to hit, I’d like to invite you to keep the discussion going amongst yourselves. What did you think of Django Unchained? Did you see any other noteworthy films over Christmas? We’ll be back in a few days and I think we’ll have plenty of stuff to talk about. Until then, kick back and relax with a nice tall glass of egg nog.

Is Django Unchained part of 2012 or 2013 in your top films? I don’t know about Canada, but the film won’t be released until the end of January here in Scandinavia.

  • Matt

Django Unchained doesn’t match Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, or Inglorious Basterds, but I thought it was better than Jackie Brown and Death Proof.

A middle of the road tarantino film, and While I like Inglorious Basterds a lot, I think he has been making the same type of movie since Kill Bill 1&2. I hope he tries something a little different for his next movie.

I also saw Les Miserables and Jack Reacher. Both were pretty entertaining films that I have no desire to rewatch any time soon!

I got Albert Brooks’ MOTHER and THIN RED LINE for Christmas and gave JCVD, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and LEPRECHAUN 4. Watched MOTHER and laughed so hard tears came out of my eyes. Anybody seen this thing?

happy holidays to you too peeps. listening to you guys talk is one of my favourite things to do! thanks so much for yet another ~52 weeks of good times, 2012 was great one.

  • Ben

Any reason why you guys don’t wait a few more weeks to catch up with all the movies before you make the list? Zero Dark Thirty seems to be in everyone’s top 10 and it’s not even out for another 2 weeks. It could very well top some of your lists and the reader lists. Do you guys just use the calendar as the cutoff for list making?

  • Yeah I’m a little torn on how to deal with these awards contenders that don’t get a wide release until January. Waiting another month to do year end stuff makes it kind of irrelevant. Heck, even the end of December is kind of late to do it. But it does leave you with movies that fall in between both years and usually get left off lists altogether. I guess we can always update our lists afterward.

  • Jonny Ashley

I openly wept 3 times during django unchained!

  • Ben

I agree, everyone’s list is already in and if you don’t have it out by now it almost feels like you’re late to the party, it just sucks for the people who have to wait for wide releases to make their lists.

  • Dan Morgan
