A&E’s Bates Motel Trailer

With a pair of Alfred Hitchcock biopics being released over the past couple of months and the Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection recently arriving on Blu-ray, there has been a sudden surge of interest in the Master of Suspense as of late. Next year, the Hitch revival continues with the premiere of A&E’s new original series Bates Motel. The show is a prequel to Psycho, chronicling the life of Norman Bates, his relationship with his mother Norma, and the events leading to him becoming a killer.

Bates Motel is executive produced by Lost co-creator Carlton Cuse and stars Freddie Highmore (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Spiderwick Chronicles) as a young Norman Bates along with Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) as his mom. While some might take issue with the idea of exploiting such a classic film, this is actually the third attempt to make a prequel to Psycho; there was also a failed TV pilot in the late ’80s followed by the poorly received Psycho IV: The Beginning. Will the third time be the charm? Bates Motel is expected to premiere sometime in spring 2013; check out the first full trailer and a couple of promos after the jump.
