    Alan Silvestri borrows even more from himself with Predator and Back to the Future. Listen to the the climacltic parts of Back to the Future, like the lightning clock tower scene. He reuses it fo the action parts of the score in Predator.

    Do any of you guys use the Blu-ray.com app to keep track of your collection? It allows you to scan barcodes, which is an excellent way of keeping track of which version of a movie you have from which country.

    Also, I just read over Letterboxd FAQ today and they said they probably won’t ever integrate movie collections into their interface, but encourage people to make lists of their collections.

    The first time ever I’ve felt the urge to boo at Greg. Tombstone is awesome, it’s tons better than Wyatt Earp and Val Kilmer is great in it.

    Kind of amazed how Sean failed to notice the major plot point that Kilmers character is sick though, having just seen the movie.

  • I had it on in the background while doing something else so I guess I just missed the initial explanation of that. I knew something else was wrong with him but for some reason I just thought it was tied to his alcoholism.

    In Tombstone, I think Billy Zane and Jason Priestly characters had a gay love storyline that was cut out of the film. Priestly’s character seemed overly distraught over Billy Zane’s death.

    Also, it’s well-known that Kurt Russell ghost-directed the film.

    I can’t believe Frank gets that much enjoyment out of working in a theater. Gotta love those three “P’s”. Sounds like maybe you should be the manager instead!!!

  • No mention of Dirk Diggler’s recording studio stuff in “Boogie Nights”?!?! Also, later in the movie, Rick Springfield’s “Jessie’s Girl” over the scene of Dirk just staring into space for like a minute straight is pretty incredible.

  • Oh, and after clicking “Show all available episodes” in iTunes, I see that it goes all the way back to episode 85. Whether or not they WORK when you click to get them, I don’t know.

  • I work at a theater and we had to program the Les Mis featurette in front of EVERY movie for a couple of weeks as part of the regular trailer package, so that was five minutes on top of the 15-20 minutes of trailers that was already there, which may have also included a regular Les Mis trailer and another shorter behind-the-scenes piece. Yeah, because the people going to see “Sinister” wanted to repeatedly listen to Wolverine talk about how much he loves musicals…

    Couldn’t you just upload the early episodes as one big torrent file?

  • That might be fine for the really early stuff, but just to verify, we’re talking about all Film Junk episodes prior to #360, not just the old Space Junk episodes. We’d like most of these to be available in iTunes if possible, not just via BitTorrent which is not very convenient for the average person.

    Currently episodes #85 to #360 are available if you download them in a web browser, but they don’t work in iTunes and they probably won’t work with any other podcatchers or download managers. I’m looking into some hosting options now, hope to have a solution in the next week or so.

    Best musical moment in a non musical has to be when the cast sing Elton John’s Tiny Dancer on the coach in Almost Famous.

    This movie features a performing band but isn’t a musical.

  • It’s been a while since I saw Tombstone but I remember liking it quite a bit. It works great as an early 90’s pop western.
    I basically like the OK corral story – it’s a western legend at this point – and watched most of its cinematic interpretations, from Tombstone, to Wyatt Earp, to The Gunfight at OK Coral with Douglas and Lancaster, they’re all great. I have yet to watch My Darling Clementine, but hey, it’s a John Ford western, so it simply cannot suck.

    And years ago I remember watching a forgotten western from the early 70’s called Doc, focusing on Doc Holiday’s character, tuberculosis and all. It’s almost the antithesis to Tombstone: A dour, dirty, grimy character study. But it’s great.

    Sean: Perhaps it’s time to go the premium route for anything that’s older than say a year? Such as shows like WTF with Marc Maron (http://www.wtfpod.com/). Just without ass raping the listeners like that show does, pricewise.

    But like I mentioned a few weeks (or perhaps it was longer?) ago, dividing it up into year-packages would be an excellent solution for 11,10 and 09, and then having everything older than that all together (08 – 06 I guess), since the sound quality of the early shows is mehh and they weren’t as long as the shows have been for the last few years.

    WTF uses something called MyLibsyn for their premium service. Might be worth looking into: https://my.libsyn.com/

    Nobody has really explained why Tombstone is good and why Val Kilmer is good in it.

    Re: Touch of Evil. As big a miscasting choice it was to have Heston play Vargas in its defense I do not believe it was tasteless or offensive. Heston basically plays himself (as usual) but with bronze make-up. He does not affect a Speedy Gonzales accent or any other offensive mannerisms. It is a positive characterization despite what one thinks of this old Hollywood practice.

    Re: Favorite scenes set to non-score music. Show Me the Way to Go Home and Spanish Ladies in Jaws, Day-o in Beetlejuice and In Dreams from Blue Velvet are all memorable

    Great episode for film noir. I really like Touch of Evil and Sunset Boulevard. In Sunset Boulevard, the butler is played by Erich Von Stroheim (director of Foolish Wives and Greed), Buster Keaton makes a cameo, and so does C.B DeMille. Great film from Wilder.

    i centainly don’t want that, no way. as much as i would, i can’t pay with moneys atm, so.. “no premium for me! come back one year”. just as well, i’m kinda tired of hearing about jedies, terminators and matrixes.

    there’s a whole bunch of movies from past years that you gentlemen can chat about, beside some minutes dedicated to a few insignificant new ones like cloud atlas shrugged and taken two by fours

    in my view, you’re either a podcast or a premium cast. if you do it for the fun of it, you’re free to pick and discuss any film you find interesting and the result would be just as excellent, if not more so.

    I think Film Junk has hit a very nice sweet spot with the premium podcasts. If you don’t want to pay as little as $1 to hear them, don’t. No one is holding a gun to your head. And the guys are some of the worst salesmen in the history of sales, so no one can say they’re even trying that hard to guilt you into getting the premium podcasts.
