Anne Hathaway Joins Robopocalypse, Alex Proyas to Direct Daniel H. Wilson’s Amped

With strong early buzz starting to trickle in for Anne Hathaway’s performance in Les Miserables, she has already revealed what her next on-screen role is likely to be. It was first reported a couple of months ago that she was in talks for the female lead in Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse. She has since confirmed her involvement in the film with Empire, although she wouldn’t say much else about the project. Based on the book by Daniel H. Wilson, the story revolves around a small group of human survivors fighting against a robot uprising. Of course, with Steven Spielberg turning his book into a major blockbuster, Daniel H. Wilson’s next novel is already a hot property as well, and now it is being developed as a project for director Alex Proyas (I, Robot, Knowing). More details after the jump.

According to THR, Working Title Films is in talks with Daniel H. Wilson to adapt his latest novel Amped for the big screen. Summit Entertainment originally picked up the rights in 2010 but they let them lapse after merging with Lionsgate. Now Alex Proyas is attached to direct the movie, which also revolves around an uprising of sorts — this time by humans enhanced with nanotechnology.

The future of this project may hinge on the success of Robopocalypse, but it’s hard to imagine that a Spielberg sci-fi movie wouldn’t be a huge hit. Chris Hemsworth and Ben Whishaw are also supposedly in talks to star alongside Anne Hathaway. Are you looking forward to Robopocalypse and Amped? Do you think Alex Proyas is a good choice to direct the latter or is his filmography no longer as impressive as it once was?
