Monday Morning Box Office Report: Skyfall Smashes Bond Opening Weekend Record

Just two installments after Daniel Craig became James Bond with Casino Royale, the franchise has already managed to more than double its opening weekend numbers with an astounding $87.8 million start for Skyfall. This is easily the biggest Bond debut to date, leaving Quantum of Solace‘s $67.5 million in the dust and bringing the Skyfall’s worldwide total to over $500 million. It is also the fourth biggest debut of the year, although with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2 out next weekend, it could easily slip to fifth. Meanwhile Wreck-It Ralph and Flight dropped to #2 and #3 respectively, followed by Argo and Taken 2. (That’s right, Taken 2 is still in the top 5.) In limited release, Lincoln opened to a very strong per-screen average of $81,818. Will it maintain that momentum when it opens wide on Friday?
